Looking at getting my RGV forks redone on my '81 LC and thought i should check some weights and stuff and see whats what before i just accept an upgrade for the RGV units as fitted to RGVs, ie what RGV suppliers sell for their customers in case the standard settings are totally wrong for the LC...
So... Can anyone who reads this see if my reasoning is right... any input is helpful
Firstly Weight
---------------
According to what ive found the RGV VJ22 (what my forks are from) weighs about 140kg dry... the LC 143kg dry...
To be honest i expected the LC to weigh a lot more than the RGV, it has a lot of heavier parts like the wheels, frame etc etc... hmmm...
Now ive fitted my LC with the following RGV parts:
- Wheels/tyres - much lighter than the old LC's
- front forks - about the same as the LC
- front brakes - a little heavier than LC but close
- tripple/mudguard and other parts - much the same as the LC when all added up
- rear swingarm - lighter than LC, maybe the same all up with axle etc.
- rear brake - much the same as the LC
Fuel capacity is 15.9 for LC and 17 for the RGV, so about 1kg different...
So.... all up i think the LC might have shed a few kgs of unsprung weight by adding the RGV stuff... but mostly the weight is about the same between the bikes. I didnt know that...
Weight distribution
---------------------
A factor of rake/trail and all that stuff that i cannot measure... but from what people have said the RGV is pretty close to 50/50 and the LC is biased over the rear... but.... the RGV swingarm is longer so that would help a little to avoid the 'front light, rear heavy' feeling when riding, but perhaps not change the weight distribution much... but i couldnt find real published figures for either bike... So, anyone know what the proper weight distribution percentages are for the old LC and the RGV VJ22?
