So one day in January this year talk in the college workshop turned to 2-strokes as it usually did and i decided to see if my mate still had his old LC and if i could offer him a cheeky amount to liberate it from his garage and get it back on the road after 11+ years of it wasting away ..... here is what he delivered If only i'd known what i'd let myself in for lol , i knew she had a gearbox problem because thats why she got tucked away in a garage, i also knew that those Nikon pipes hadn't done any miles due to the issue because i helped bolt them on So out with the engine, noticing the rad had burst at some point so started a list of what needed replacing (its a huuuuge list now lol) Once the engine was apart it was plain to see and feel that the center bearings on the crank were past it and the crank had issues Off to bob farnham it went .... in the mean time i stripped the rest down Till it was no more than a collection of boxes and a frame, didn't think the front wheel looked in line when it was on the paddock stand .... Luckily ebay produced a nice straight set for the same amount as 1 new stanchion lol Will gather together the pics of the bits that have been finished this afternoon , and post some more then Let me know what you guys think

Lol i'm undecided about them at the moment, only because they aren't in the best shape, the gear lever has been snapped in half and plated and screwed back together etc .... i have the originals in a box so once its back in a rolling chassis i will have to make the call as to which take pride of place

Cool, you could nearly say this is an early example of custom/street fighter LC?Swinger, pipes, rear sets & that funky lil top fairing. Wouldn't you be tempted going with an RZ motor or you want to keep originality? Good luck with the build, will keep an eye on this one. Jon,I could always offer you good dollars for those rear sets ;-)

Oi im not selling my Raasks! I love em... Tho if there was a 2nd set in Aus we could make the club into the 'RRAASK', ie the 'Raask Rearset Aussie Appreciation Society Klub'.... and it would have 2 members... eeek, Id have to start doing a monthly magazine...

@ jonw i shall definitely let you know what i decide and i'm sure we can arrange something if i don't use them lb yeah we were all big fans on streetfighters and the like when we were 18 , gonna keep the original engine, just love the stock lc engine , the little fairing has gone off to be fitted to a tzr 125 4dl fighter that my mate is building the rest is going to be refurbed and restored speaking of which time i put up the shiny bit pics First up the head and barrels after a nice visit to my friendly powdercoater : And then we find out that my mate does vapour blasting so a big smile later and these bits got done for free Cases restored to their former glory : Carbs : and all the pits and most of the marks removed from the swingarm : Bob Farnham worked his magic , and it seems magic is not cheap but well worth it :

Lol butchers if only , the bits i can't get done by mates are the really expensive bits it will certainly be alot lower cost than it might be tho glad everyone likes what i've done so far Did a little filling and sanding , good old Chemical Metal Before : Several hours work later : Still not happy with it but a few more hours should see it perfect in my eye , some other deep scratches and dings that need seeing too... Snagged these off ebay awhile ago : Think they will set the freshly coated barrels and head off nicely

Gotta have some bling aiming to replace as much as possible with stainless steel fasteners, better look and hopefully not as much of a pain to undo in the future lol

Yes it is indeed switchgear, left hand to be precise, guessing it had been in contact with the road at some point , as the external components of the hi / low are broken and it had grazes all over, got my sandblasting mate to remove the paint and stickers so i could restore it properly

Yeah i'm so happy with the way the cases came out, didn't think they would come up half as good as they did Switchgear is now as mended as it can be, and masked up ready for when i can afford the paint, now to turn my attention to the wiring for them, gonna remove the horrible cracked plastic sheath, degrease all the wires / internal switches and dismantle the connectors and clean them all up, then heatshrink the wires , reassemble the connectors and they should look better than new Starting with the right hand side as the left needs wires repairing and i'm on the look out for a scrap one as i need the hi/low switch anyway as mines broken.... The wire to begin with: Hopefully pics of them refurbished will be up in the next day or two if i can get hold of some heatshrink also want to modify it so that the kill switch works both sides instead of just one way, really wonder why yamaha designed it that way....

So the wiring has taken a back seat for a while as i don't have the tool to remove the pins from the connector , will get one as soon as funds allow, today i thought i'd have a quick play with my new Ultrasonic cleaner , got it cheap and wasn't expecting miracles, but its done a good job on the carb bits : Tomorrow sees me attacking the metal parts of the seat lock with a sandblasting booth , my first time , looking forward to it and pressing the bushes out the engine stabilizers and getting them powdercoated , also getting the clutch basket checked by my old tutor see if its savable and gonna knock the brake arm bolt out so i can get a stainless one off norbo so plenty of picks to come tomorrow hopefully even if its just the mess i make of sandblastin lol

Good work mate. It's a long road, but every bit of work should be viewed as progress, then the rewards come sooner.

Its true that every little job is making the list smaller, today saw some progress, the engine stabilizers are apart and the bushes removed, in the box for powdercoating they go, the brake plate was relieved of its torque bar bolt aswell and my first bit of sand blasting took place Before : And after : Not bad i think for a first time and the fact that it was a small portable box that horrible college kids have used and left blue roll and all sorts in there that kept blocking the flow of the 40 year old sand lol

Yeah i'm only replacing if a bits too far gone to repair, or in the case of the suspension and bolts where new is far superior and will increase the usability of the bike , because this is definitely going to be a bike thats ridden.
Spent yesterday sorting bits for the metal finishers, i would polish them myself but i won't do them justice so reluctantly turning that job over to a professional when money is available, next job is going to have to be respraying the exhausts as the paint is flaking badly and rust is taking hold, out with the wire brush i think
