Yes Ds are points and Es are electronic. I may be wrong but i thought the Es started in 1979, i will look it up.
Nice looking bike in the best colours as well.

no dont have frame number but was a beautiful bike to tide, either on one wheel or two. i sold it in 82 to get a 350lc and as said on here tax ran out in april 83 so must be either dead or tucked away in a garage somewhere, i hope its the latter

Easiest way to tell is do your footrests bolt to the side of the frame or are they bolted to the frame under the engine. Also 'E' models had electronic ignition fitted when new. If you've got electronic ignition fitted is it aftermarket or genuine.

'C' and 'D' models are points. UK 'E' model has electronic ignition. USA 'E' models have points. 'C' and 'D' models have underslung footrests. 'E' models have footrests fitted to side of frame. 'C' model has no plastic seat surround. 'D' and 'E' models have plastic seat surround. So with points and no plastic seat surround and with it being 1976 year, looks like a 'C'.
