Not the best start to the weekend or the summer for that matter. Thursday morning swanned into college to turn up some wheel spacers. All was going well, when as i bought one of the tools away from the spacer the swarf wrapped round the chuck of the lathe and whipped round my left hand and fingers. Didn't swear, honest..... Anyway, this was taken a few minutes after, thinking i was gunna be back later that day, we jumped in my mates "van" and headed flat out down the A1 to Stevenage Hospital. Arrived there, waited for a bit, to be told they were gonna patch me up and send me on my way. Happy Days. Surgeon came down, had a look and said no way. Thats a plastics job and that i'd be staying the night and they would operate the following day. To cut a long story short, i'd gone through 3 artery's, 2 tendons and various nerves so i had to wait it out till the following day. Later that evening, was well sorted Following day they sent me down to thearter, 5 hours later they had done what the wanted. Sewed my index finger to a flap on my middle finger, which they will seperate in 3 week time. This will keep them both alive. Well thats their plan. So as of now, they have imoblised my left hand with a splint and will remain like this for 6 weeks Hopefully be off in time for Mallory.

Hells teeth....thats gorry shit! I spent all last sunday down the hospital due to swollen knee only for them to confirm I need an operation to bind ligaments back... They wanted to drain the knee as an interim proceedure.....I advised the pain was bearable and I'd wait for full on surgery.....The consultant explained they have to scratch the inside of knee cap when draining and its not very pleasant......I'm a shit house Good luck all the same Sean! Another mate of mine recently got into an argument with a lathe which resulted in a crocidile attack effect - The result now is that his forearm is nearly 1/2" longer and he's lost all feeling....thats real bad!

Ahaha mellow ^^ Same from me mate, hope your back to erm.... tinkering with motorbikes a.s.a.p ;D A kid at our college turned a lathe on while he had hold of the chuck key (which was still in the chuck might I add!!! ). Any way he lost the fight and ended up with his hand trapped between the key (which was crushing down with the force of 2 tons) and the tool post (which as you know has a set of bolts in to to clamp the tool). Basically he managed to stop the motor of the lathe turning with his hand! It bent the chuck key under the load and his hand was crushed beyond recognition. He will never be able to use his left hand again. You got off lightly man, lathes are fookin powerful and scary bits of kit Still at least you didn't get some hot slag in your eye like our tutor did the other day. H and S had a field day and now you can't even walk into the shop unless you have safety glasses! Hope you can sue the college mate and put all the moneys toward your LC hybrid ;D Adam

To cut 3 weeks of trips to and from the hospital, the initial skin graft didn't take. So this morning i was on the operating table at 8am for 90 mins under local anasphetic whilst the separated my index from my middle finger the proceeded to use what can only be descriped as the same tool they use in kebab shops to remove a nice chunk of skin from my bicep in order to replace whats missing on my middle finger. Hopefull this will take, then its on to therapy
