The bike is now finished. Starts first time every time. Ticking over nice and even at 1250 rpm, but its struggling to rev above 4500rpm, just splutters. Running large can microns, standard air box, 230 mains, needles in the middle groove, air screws 1.1/2 turns out (makes no diffrence no matter where they are). Any suggestions - too rich - cant do plug chop cos it wont rev

I had this on my RD250 LC and it was the crankshaft oil seals that where gone.

Try putting the needles in the second slot from bottom and upjetting to 240's or 250's.............Sounds like a fuelling shortage to me

Yeah...it will richen it up ....but adjust the mixture screw to compensate
sounds to me like its getting not enough fuel , jetting with Microns is a real pain....as I well know.....best going up at least 2 jet sizes with them , fitting reed block extensions helps too mate. Personally I prefer the K&N's.....theyre bit of a pig to set up initially , but once done...wow

Try turning the air/mixture screws in half a turn after upjetting.....I think this will get you closer to your goal
In to weaken.....out to richen , always try to do a plug chop even if it wont rev up to full tilt....that way at least it will give you some idea as to what is happeneing inside......coffee coloured deposits are good , the light biscuit colour is supposed to be ideal.....but I always try to go a shade richer.............minimizes seizure risk.
Trial and error mate with jetting....good luck and keep us informed
