thought i would share some of my ideas and experiences with my clean up of my F2
mainly here with the rust removal from inside my tank,
it was pretty rough looking, but no holes etc
first off, i saw an article in practical sportbike....(my favorite bike mag by far!!)....and they wrote about swilling the tank with fish tank gravel to loosen the worse, , its a bugger to get out after apparently, but the results are supposed to be worth it,
now i have all the time in the world, so im playing around with a few ideas in one..
first i poured in approx 1 litre of malt vinegar ,cuz we all know this is a great rust eater!!, then i tried filling with water and a handfull of gravel, and swilled it around,.......it didnt half shift some of the build up.
i then tried the reverse electroplating method.
using a tank full of warm water and soda crystals and introduced a sacrificial anode, in the form of a stick of steel.
connect to a standard battery charger as shown (one to the tank (negative) and one to the anode suspended in the solution (positive) and leave it for a few hours.
this is the set up, just dont let the two terminals touch, i used a plastic wire spool to hold the rod (taped on crudely with any waterproof tape)
this is a great link to explain all !!!
www.chip.com/buick/techtips/rustremoval.html
and here is some of the crap it shifted (it was a fully polished steel anode !!!!
its a work in progress, and ill keep alternating between this and a rinse with vinegar and fish tank gravel to agitate even more loose.....ill keep you posted if interested!!!
