Try again after the crash??? Hi, thought I would stick a few pics up of my project, it's been a couple of years since I bought it, but had a new one when they first came out, and after a few weeks of ownership, and approx 1500 miles, the outcome of a spectacular wheelie, was one dead bike as I collided into a car doing a U-turn.  pics for those interested, as I bought it, (was localish and only one previous owner) 15K miles and looked totally original. but very very rusty, and in a poor state. Looked ok when i viewed it, but was going to have it anyway, I'm sure we've all had this feeling at some point swingarm too bad to rescue, think it's one of the few things I've actually had to replace so far. Exhausts were totally rusted through too, still on the lookout for a very nice set of originals

tried to rebuild the shock as good as possible, found some old discoloured foam type damper around the body, so made a new bit and fitted it, was from an old filter we use at work, probably a bit too bright as I don't think there's any chance of getting another??

Hi, yes the rot got the better of the frame and the swingarm, (bought a good S/H swingarm, still have the original one though) the coaters, just kept going over the bad bits on the frame, until it was down to good metal, came out better than I expected, unfortunately, there is a very thin hole in one of the rear frame tubes, I missed that until it was going back together, so too late to reweld or repair now.

Few more pics, got them loaded all over my computer, and I thought they were all in one place, so easy to load, sorry about all the uploads, was going to do it in one day. My lovely engine as I removed it, thought I'd done the wrong thing buying it by now Refurbed and painted barrels and head, also did crankcases, but used Simoniz this time for a change. Engine rebuilt with crank refurbed by Grampian (only 15K miles) new pistons and rings, still on standard bore, so well pleased with that more cleaning as expected

Final pics today, this is where I am up to now. On Holiday next week so hopefully get it running. Why are these designed around the airbox?? shock and swinger assembled with a new parts ancilliaries all fixed on, fuse boxes etc etc This is the how the rusty rear end looks, (kept hosting this pic a little while ago) Managed to get the engine in without scratching anything. On its wheels and just about there. After seeing the mint virtually new black 31K at Stoneleigh, I 've realised I have a few parts that need changing and swapping of a few bolts etc, but I want to get this on the road and have a ride around this summer. Also need to sort the bodywork, got some virtually new sidepanels, and will be fitting original fairing, which is in ok condition. See what fleabay brings, but still need the original pipes. Need to sort the original centre stand as this one is bent on the LH leg, and a few of the bolts that look loose are now all tightened (for the eagle eyed amongst you)

Wow! How did you get the shock to come up so well? Did you actually rebuild it (I understood this was not possible and have been thinking around other options...

The quality and effort that you guys put into your rebuilds never fails to impress me. This particular one is no exception. I've only ever done a full resto once (on an X7) it was good in my opinion, but looking back now it seemed nothing more than a 'tart up' . . . . . and the most gutting thing about my efforts is that it got stolen just 2 weeks after completion. . . . .with no insurance. Saved me the MOT fee I suppose. Always look on the bright side. Keep up the good work you beauties.

I think you're right, cannot be rebuilt as far as I know either, Think I got this one from america, all stripped and painted when it arrived, alloy cleaned and greased etc, and made the little sock as mentioned. There's a nice one on fleabay at the moment, I was thinking of buying it for a spare. a few come up on German ebay too, look for 'ypvs federbein'

Keepup the good work mate. Whats the fuel Tank Like? Thanks, forgot to ask him his name, had a good long chat and dribbled all over his bike at the show, trying to memorise all the 'green bolts' and their position. I've got a few wrong types fitted, and obviously in the wrong position, but I'm trying to use all the original parts too, without replacing too much, still got lots to do like re-zinc the spindles and chain adjusters etc. Had the weekend on it, and refitted the carbs, and a throttle cable that was damaged off ebay (thinking it was like new, as mentioned) Refitted some new fairing decals, and got it running again, but had to remove the RH crankcase cover as I had the kickstart spring in the wrong recess and it sounded like a hammer drill Soon be ready for roadtest and MOT. Had a look at the tank again, and it looks like a nice strong one underneath (time will tell) but I do have a spare, but thats not tested either, and both need a respray, might give it a go myself??? have done some home spraying in the past, but not a professional finish by any stretch of the imagination The wheels just need lots of time spending on them, think I took nearly a week of nights just to do each wheel, used wire wheels, bit of emery and loads of scotchbrite pads and chrome cleaner, but didn't do them so they were shiny.

Have you got the steel clip for the rear swing arm where the caliper bracket slides along.

Have you got the steel clip for the rear swing arm where the caliper bracket slides along. Do you mean me? yes I have it fitted but don't have a spare, was a bit of a pain to get it fitted after the powdercoating, come to think of it, might have it in a bag as the coating filled the slot up, will check tomorrow
