Its beeen a long time since my 2 stroke days. The 4l0/ ypvs is coming together. Sorry to ask the question but, what is the best two stroke to use? Also what is the best gearbox oil to use. Where can I buy the oils? looked in Halfords they said to use Castrol tts it was £12 for half a litre! At that price its going to cost more in oil than petrol! I have been advised to drain the existing oil, as i have no idea how long it was in the tank. I am told that its not good to mix two different 2 strokes. The bikes had a complete rebuild, ie pistons rebore and crank, what is the running in revs? Is it for 500 miles. Sorry for the questions , but its been 25 years!

Hi M8. The oil most use is Castrol TTS Power 1 and yes its £12 from Halfords but thats for 1litre not half a litre Bit expensive but around the going price. I used Castrol MTX Gear oil for my gearbox. As for running in everyone has their own views but id do at least 100 miles keeping it under 5000rpm then gradually up the revs by 1000rpm for 100 miles.Ive heard it said it does help to just go into the band once in a while but only just hitting it hope this helps.Someone else will come along with their views next ;D

Thanks for the help. I used castroll tt years ago, but i presume this now is semi sinthetic? Is there any grade for the gearbox oil or just MTX.
Not looking forward to running it in then....LOL

think the MTX is 70 or 80 castrol TTS was fully synthetic.TTS Power 1 is same stuff renamed You cant mix non synthetic with synthetic so if you dont know whats in the tank best to drain
