I can't take too much credit for it... I believe that OEB posted up the link a while ago, may have been on another forum though but well worth saving

looking for some advice out there in LC land guys! i have taken some measurements of the barrels, as seen in the pics, do i use standard pistons at this size, or if i polish or rebore, what can i get away with,, i dont know the history of these barrels, and if they have been bored out before. anyone know facts and figures for piston and barrel sizes? also, im planning of cleaning the tank, short of filling it with vinegar ;-) any ideas?, i need to sort the inside out and get rid of the rust, and re line it, anyone have experience and recomendations for good products to do this ? any tips would be welcomed

For the liner i am using the one form KBS coatings, its said to be a later version of POR15s product and works the same, else a radiator shop might be able to sort it for you?
I would rebore it to the size of new pistons, you would be surprised how even when not looking worn it usually is.

Another way to get all the rust out is reverse plating. Fill the tank with a mixture of soda crystals & water (1 table spoon to 1 litre of water) suspend a piece of steel in the tank ensuring it dosen't touch the metal of the tank & connect to a battery charger. It will remove every bit of rust in a couple of hours. To suspend the bar I used an 1 1/2 " plastic plumbing pipe connector which is a tight fit in the filler neck, then put a bolt through the steel bar & sat it on the plastic connector. These are the soda crystals you need but they sell them in Tesco for 99p cgi.ebay.co.uk/SODA-WASHING-CRYSTALS-1KG-KITCHEN-SINK-DRAINS-CLOTHES-/220623716046?pt=UK_HomeGarden_CLV_Cleaning_CA&hash=item335e32beceDon't do it in an enclosed place though as the electrolisis gives of hydrogen gas, you can have fun lighting the big bubbles ;D

can anyone let me know how forgiving powder coating is on frames that have this much corrosion...after shot blasting, .do i have to smooth off this, do i have to grind out the bulk of the pitting, or will it cover? and can i apply a second coat if its a bit iffy ? I was told ( by a man who knows) that two pack paint is much bette than powder coating for durability. Powder coating looks good and is cheaper but not so tough. Both finishes will need the metal to be clean and shinty before coating. Like the plated polished parts, very tidy!

i have taken some measurements of the barrels, as seen in the pics, Just one thing mate, that is no way to measure a bore. Telescopic gauges aren't great at the best of times since they only measure 2 points and can move when sliding them out of the bore and a digital caliper is only for 'rough idea' measuring. Measuring like that could very likely mean they are on 3rd over size at 64.75mm. Best to leave the measuring to the machineshop that "may" be doing the re-bore.

Bryan, possibly so, but i cant afford anything else (ie, expansion pipes etc)so i think ill get some Ally 2moto cans £40 each if you buy 2 ,as advertised in the new practical sportbike mag .......ps, next issue has a 25 page 350lc guide in it !!...... anyhow, some more pics of the progress made after christmas......more done than this, but mainly lots of uninteresting cleaning photos...... lots of wet and dry on the plastic and a touch of laquer ....looks like new ! a good soak of a filthy oil bottle, soak in swarfega first, then a soak in soda crystals , well clean, but still a little yellowing with age. i am slowly starting to work through cleaning the electrics, but the main harness is shot, thank god replacements are availible at £90 !
