Hi, ive been goin round my lectrix, trying to find a cutting out problem at 6000+ rpm. Heres what ive found Hi speed coil 5.4 ohms....ok Lo speed coil 232 ohms.... outside of the +/-10% of 271 ohms Pulser coil 84 ohms....ok Ignition coil Primary, Red wire .9 ohms, Black wire .3 ohms....dont know which is the correct wire to take a reading from Ignition coil secondary. I couldnt obtain a reading from this one and was wandering if i was testing it correctly. I had one probe in the HT lead and the other to earth via the frame. It does look like someone has tried to repair the coil in the past and so I have another on the way.... heres hopeing So the two things that I am unsure about is the low speed coil reading and how do I fix it and the ignition coil, have I tested it correctly? Allcomers welcome on this one ;D Cheers...Andy

Hi monkfish. Could you tell us what model you have. If it is an LC or powervalve to check the primary coil you check the resistance between the orange and black wire which should be 0.33 ohms + or - 20% and to check the secondary put a probe in the end of each ht leads and you should have 3.5 kilo ohms + or - 20% . Hope this helps .Tone.

Ok reading between the orange and black (primary)on the coil I have got .6 ohms and between the HT leads (secondary) I have 3.7K ohms. Looks to me like the primary is out of tolerane but the secondary is ok

Thanks Gaz......sounds expensive. I did get a reading from the stator..... Hi speed coil 5.4 ohms....ok Lo speed coil 232 ohms.... outside of the +/-10% of 271 ohms Pulser coil 84 ohms....ok
Its the low speed coil that is out of tolerence so i figure it could be this that it causing my cutting out problems.
Is it possible to have the stator re wound and if so can you recomend a company Cheers Andy

cheers, ill get it sent off to them. I tryed another coil today but it didnt cure the problem. Funny though, rag it on the flat and it seems ok but as soon as it hits an incline it dies and i have to let the revs drop right down before it will pick up again. Andy

well i must admit that during todays test ride i was beginning to think fuel. I think the carb set up is ok because when the bike isn't cuttting out she flies although I am wonderin if the carbs aren't that great as its still running rich on the left pot. i did fit one of Norbs carb kits wich seemed to improve it a little. I will strip and clean the carbs again and fit some fuel filters. One thought is to send them off to motocarb for a refurb then hopefully they could be eliminated from the problem
