Hi all,
Im in the process of turning a RD250LC into a hybrid with a 350YPVS engine.
Was wondering if anyone has any ideas or handy tips so far. Theres a few things I would swearby from previous experience. for example For cleaning up old parts I find CIF the kitchen cleaner is far far superior and restores plastics ( especially white ) really well. Its great for the oil tank etc.
The plastics on the rolling chasis were really bad, really really bad scuffed and scraped and totally stinking. after a clean and a rub down "Halfords Rubberised paint" is the ticket, they come up like new. ( altho when you put it on it looks naff like its a hammered finish, but after a few hours its totally smooth ) and its really thick and covers well. Expensive tho theres not much in a can.
PJ1 is the really really hard to beat also.
So whats your secrets?

Lay the loom out along the frame before you start cutting it up to fined places to fit stuff. This way you can strip back the outer cover and fined a home for stuff better. Some people do make up a loom from scratch stripping the holl thing down and starting from scratch.

Hi, Take pictures of everything before you start, invaluable at build up time. Also when refurbing alloy parts once stripped and cleaned up heat them before painting. It's amazing how porous alloy parts can be, trapped moisture will just ruin your repainted parts. Finally, estimate how much it's going to cost then double it, will be a more accurate figure Steve Steve.

I wasn't sure if I should share this one or not, its not restoration related but...... Johnston's Baby wipes clean visors better than any other product Ive seen. It will disintegrate the flies and after a wipe to dry it off leaves that nice residue that makes the water stream off and you can get a lot of baby wipes for very little money. There good for the ringsting after too many pints and a bad curry, so I'm told.

Just so long as you don't get confused and start using vaseline for ring sting That could raise a few embarassing questions
