sorted all the other problems now with the warped rear drum and clutch plate, bike is on a fresh built motor and i have done about 5 miles now taking it up to about 6k and it feels nice and strong etc. the only small problem i have is when you rev the engine in neutral the revs come down and hover around the 2k mark for a couple of seconds before settling to a nice idle, tried a couple of diffent pilot screw setting but that makes no difference, sprayed some carb cleaner around and that made no difference either, slides are in the right way and carbs have been balanced using the lolly stick method. the reads are fine and sealed properly, this is the 1st lc i have had so didnt know if it was a feature of the model. carbs are clean with new pilot jets and floats are set correctly as well.

sounds like an air leak, i'd double check the seal on the inlet rubbers, run your finger along the bottom of the inlets and see if there's any traces of 2 stroke, if there is remount the reed cages and rubbers using some instant gasket on all the surfaces. hth.

Like both previous answers this type of symptom on any 2-stroke engine would point to an air leak. Check both inlet rubbers for cracks in the rubbers or bad sealing to the reed block. I hope that's where your problem lies because the next point of interest will be the ignition side crank-seal Good luck

had it running again earlier and with some carb spray sprayed around the areas it didnt seem to make much difference, so i tightened the carb rubbers some more and balanced the idle screws again and it seems 95% better. think some new inlet rubbers are on there way to match the lovely new soft airbox ones. need to get it mot'd now.

just noticed that the rubber boot is missing off the choke knob, is this a air seal or just a dust boot?
