Sadly this year is turning into a total shit fest, no real practice or qualifying yet, weather forecast is terrible and of course because a certain individual has compressed a two week event into one week there is very little leeway. I wouldn’t be surprised if the event doesn’t take place. Whilst certain individual can’t account for the weather if it was still over two weeks you’d have more opportunity and it’s likely that practice and qualifying would have gone ahead. Very little traffic about again like last year, due to fans coming later in the week.

I think that the new schedule format is ruining the event , and also from a safety point of view it’s dangerous.
When practice did go ahead the last few years riders were out every night, so very little time for riders and crew to rest so riders became very tired which is very dangerous Also less time to repair bikes from previous evenings practice as they are then due out the next evening, which could contribute to a mistake on machine preparation, as everyone is human! & things can happen.
This schedule also puts additional pressure on marshals, scrutineering ect ect
As Veg mentioned The old schedule had more room the allow for bad weather Also with the days off people could get out and about to visit different parts of the island.

It could be first meeting to be cancelled..... hopefully not, but here in the north west, rain everyday for over a week is nothing new.... at all!!!!!! As mentioned, compressing the meeting into 9 days is a gamble at best and ******* ****** at worse.

Home today, well that was interesting. So the decision to make the Manx and classic a 7 day affair rather than a two week affair has proven to be a total shambles. Dropping the majority of the classics, putting the riders, teams and marshals at risk and under huge amounts of pressure. The Clown of the course (Gary ego Thompson). Stated publicly that they can’t go back to two weeks and insists some of that responsibility is due to lack of Marshalls. Why do you lack Marshalls Gary? Because as you stated you didn’t need them as much as they needed the races? Or because you give them zero respect and reward? Cancelled their Saturday meal? Gave them a bottle of water and pack of wet wipes for their 8 hour plus days? Is it due to the lack of respect to the history of the event? Or your blatant disregard to the teams, riders and public? Is it your self evident back handed handling of not just this event but others often with serious if not fatal results? Yes the weather was awful, had there been a two week window there had been sufficient decent weather to have got a safe amount of practice and qualifying in. However you know best, far more than the teams riders Marshall and spectators. I’m angry not from a personal position but what for many many years was the greatest classic event world wide is being turned into a comedic side show and is putting riders lives at risk and too much pressure on the teams and marshals. You sir are a grade A clown.

Thanks veg, I didn't know those in and outs....
I think that the marshals should receive some sort of help with their expenses, always in awe of them turning out for nowt.... And it seems even less after what you informed me of.
No packed lunch/food vouchers? Stood there all day? You have to look after volunteers and be very mindful that without them nothing happens. The mrs volunteers at a big flower show and the Great Yorkshire show...... they get looked after.

It’s a total disgrace the way they are treated. 2 of the regulars who stay with us have been doing it for years, bob flies over from the USA every year for the Manx and TT, Roy’s an ex copper both say the same, one of my mates uncle did it until 2022 and had enough. Last year there were Marshall posts that were unmanned opposite the digs, historically you had at least two Marshall’s at Agos leap this year 1. Now bear in mind 2 Tts ago at this station there were two fatal side car crashes with fatalities. 1 Marshall. Why because of the above. Today supposed to be 6 races then it was 5. 5 races all shortened in length but the pressure on the riders/teams/mechanics is immense. This is on top of limited track time/practice because it’s been shortened from two weeks to one.

I've just come back from the Gedinne Classic races in belgium. I know it's a small event compared to The IOM but they treat the personnel very well indeed. A British husband and wife side car team let their teenage son go there a week earlier to help set up the course. They treated him with three square meals a day and as much non alcoholic drink as he wanted. It was the same for the grown ups except stronger drinks was on the list for them.
Fun Fact: The race committee buy all there hay bales from Switzerland. Sunday evening the local farmers buy the hay and literally whisk it all away before it is dark.

I've only been going there since just before covid. There was one famous organizer but he has passed away and i didn't know his name. He was a big fan of the Brits that came over to race and very helpful if there was a problem.
It really is a friendly atmosphere amongst the racers.

The classic superbike race was one lap what a farce. The mist came down on the mountain and that's far too dangerous to race in. Correct decision made to shorten!

The event is finally over The weather has been very challenging to say the least, leading to difficult decisions some of which were questionable.
I realise the organisers have a very difficult job For me I thought Monday’s races would have been canceled as sending riders on track with minimal practice (some of which hadn’t even qualified) ! with many damp corners was very dangerous and was utter madness
Our guys didn’t have a great races Andy Skov stated 24th got up to 11th then retired with a blown engine. Pete Murray finished 26th However they are both safe and sound and we are now packing up with more rain and strong winds (just for a change)! Not sure if the 19:30 ferry will be cancelled due to the weather but that really would be the icing on the cake I will upload-a link to photos later in the week. Best regards Johnny C

I always fancied going over to the IOM for this, but it seems pointless given what you say about it this year.
The weather? Well, nothing you can do about that, but like you say, shortening the event dramatically reduces the potential running of practice and races if it is wet and/or the misty mountain situation occurs.
Shame. Sounds like the CoC(K) needs to be replaced and a radical re-think concerning the Marshals is imperative for the future of the event?

I always fancied going over to the IOM for this, but it seems pointless given what you say about it this year. Had the weather been good, the whole show would have improved. When we say it was bad, think >50mph winds & rain & fog - properly bad, not just a bit damp. Then there were red flags with varying degrees of severity, blown shit drain @ Union Mills 20 minutes before Saturday's road closure etc etc. The organisers had a virtually impossible job on their hands that given the 'old' 2 week format 'could' have been avoided. As Johnny says, sending riders out with the lack of track time/qualifying on those roads was absolutely mad - just imagine if there was an off and subsequent collisions with unsighted riders in mountain mist. BUT, the old format takes even more time for everyone to then volunteer & there in lies the issue with marshals like me & medics, helicopters & pilots, hospitals on stand by - the list goes on. It is a marvellous and awesome thing, however needs consideration and appropriate remuneration to those giving up their time for the sake of the greater good. 2024 will go down as a bad one for sure.
