Cheers lads, as always, I appreciate the comments and encouragement The rear suspension is next. The Bandit is a monoshock, and the mounts for the original twin shocks have been cut off! So I've got to make everything. Top mounts first I machine a new post and thread it SDC12343 I then make a collar and repeat for the other side SDC12375 The lower mounts have to be fabricated from scratch, so I machine a post SDC12381 Thread it (I always thread on the lathe, using the tailstock to keep the die square) SDC12382 SDC12383 I then machine a shoulder on the other end SDC12384 The two lower shock mounts SDC12385 I then make a template and make two brackets that will be welded to the rear of the swingarm SDC12386 Cheers, Mark

Awesome work mate So many parts that wont be seen when the bike is finished, but obviously vital to the operation of the bike. And the patience of a saint !! Catch up soon - we need to discuss Stafford

Thanks Alex and Dusty I decided to reinforce the swing arm at the shock mounts. The steel is 2.5mm thick on the GSF400, so I used some of the off cuts from shortening the arm. I worked out the clearance needed for the rear wheel spindle washers and shaped the reinforcing sections after opening them on the radius. I think 5mm of steel near the rear wheel spindle should be plenty SDC12387 The lower shock mount, ready for welding once I remove some paint SDC12388 As mentioned before, just about every bracket has been cut off, so I set about making the rear fuel tank mounts First, the U shaped platforms SDC12389 These have threaded posts on the A/C's, so I got to work on the lathe SDC12390 I machined shoulders on SDC12391 Then drilled the brackets and installed the posts ready for welding SDC12392 The brackets will need to be profiled to the shape of the top frame tubes. I have to make- 2 of the oil tank mounts,(repair one as well) the lower battery box mounts, the electric plate mounts, the right side panel mounts, the seat hinges, the seat landing pad for the spring, and the rear master cylinder mounts Should keep me out of the pub! Cheers, Mark

Sorry for the delay in the updates, I've been too busy at work(not down the pub) Last time I mentioned the various brackets I have to make. I have the advantage of owning an RD400E, so I'm taking measurements and copying all the brackets. This is the lower battery box mounts! SDC12393 The top plates for the rear fuel tank mounts, in stainless steel SDC12395 This odd thing, is the upper electrical bracket, and the battery box lower R/H mount SDC12396 The lower electrical plate mount SDC12397 The side panel mount and seat landing pad SDC12398 Left and right fuel rear tank mounts SDC12399 SDC12400 Nut welded on the electric plate bracket and the side panel bracket welded in position SDC12403 And the two battery mounts ready for welding SDC12404 I've still got more brackets to make, then the more exciting stuff happens Thanks for all the replies and interest chaps Cheers, Mark
