I'm continuing this thread here as it seems a more appropriate place. The original thread can be found here rdlccrazy.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=6163Had big plans for the garage today but it turned out so nice that I went for a ride to Matlock and Chesterfield instead ;D Any road, I managed to do a couple of jobs which included liftin the head for a look. All looks ok with a little scoring on the left hand pot. It looks a little worse in reality than it does in the pictures but I figure it is fine for a 700 mile engine. only bad thing is it had its last rebore . Should I use a a sealing compound on the head gasket? Cheers Andy

I would allways use a little clear instant bike gasket wen fitting the head even if you use a gen yam one . 2mm is at the outer limet but at a push 2.50 are available.

Ive always used Welseal with pattern head gaskets, however you dont seem to need it with a Genuine Yamaha one the first time you use it. Dont worry about the 2mm over bore, you can always get a resleve, plus its 370cc. ;D

i live in matlock we will have to meet up when your all finnished! Cool, im up for making some smoke ;D. It wasnt you I saw a week last sunday at the top of the hill, headin out on the Chesterfield road. Someone was lookin round an lC there. I should be on the road in a couple of weeks.Just waitin for the swing arm to come back from the welders then I'll whip the front end out to check the head bearings and replace with tapers if not already installed. Got my swingarm back today ;D. Fitted it tonight along with one of Norbos longer than std race shocks and have run into a wee problem. The back brake rod wont reach the brake arm because the swingarm is now extended further and the brake rod is fouling on the swinger . Any suggestions for a work around? The best I can come up with is run it without a back brake which doesnt bother me but the MOT bloke will laugh me off his forecourt. Nearly there now, once this is sorted then its just the front end to inspect. Im really lookin forward to gettin out and about on this bike Andy

take the arm off and move it round a bit on the splines, may need to bend the rod a bit to clear the arm. too

Thanks Bryan, I did try that but I couldnt get the rod to come close. Instead I have drilled a new hole lower down at the brake peddle end and I now have a couple of mm clearance with the shock fully extended. The down side is that the brake peddle has to travel further for the same amount of travel at the drum... if that all makes sense.
