You could probably bore the damage out of the vertical pieces too and then screw some material back on in it's place.. Yes but this is hidden behind the barrel liner so should not be an issue ? (I hope)

All done and waiting for a 2mm spacer “Another one lives to fight another day” 😎 I’ve got to ask as it’s bugging me. That’s not finished “finished” is it? Maybe an optical illusion, but it doesn’t look flat enough that a gasket would seal it?

Hi It’s totally flat and smooth and I think you can just see the machining marks (which are like a very light scratch) that are there after a use of a single point 10mm diameter cutter I am away at the moment but will post a close up when I get back but this is a view from a different angle Best wishes Al

Yes, its the illusion of ruts in the surface when actually you can't even feel anything when you run a finger over it.

I am pretty sure it's the same effect as cutting the grass in opposite directions to get lines in the grass, the cutting bit goes back and forth creating the same effect, basically a trick of the light.

Hi all Been a bit off grid as in the throws of moving house from Swindon to just outside Bedale North Yorkshire but would like to say a personal thanks to all with the help and advice with this engine Not been an easy rebuild as fitting crank found a bent rod 😔 so crank has been rebuilt by Paul at PJME and returned and at last it starting to come together. Because of the need to re deck the top case and add a 2mm spacer just did a squish check on both barrels and without the head gasket the squashed 3d print filament measured about 1mm so final squish should be around 1.3mm Again many thanks to all Catch up again soon Best wishes Al

Great news on the move Al. Chuffed for ya mate. Oh and good work on the bike progress as well, never easy with a move Thanks Jon At first after 17 years at BD I was a bit sketchy about the idea of moving and wondering if it was a good idea. But since handing in notice things have just dropped into place as if it’s meant to be including finding the early 1800’s cottage in a very rural location (Hackforth) with a nice big workshop 😎 Also Donna is very happy as will be much closer to her mum and dad too So now super positive despite going to be skint for a while😂 Best wishes Al

I applaud you for having the balls to jack your job in and move on to pastures new
I've done the house move (although still local) and just turned 55 so can access my pensions but not brave enough yet to put my notice in
It doesn't help that the job is easy going but not what I want to be doing now
Workshop looks great too 👍
