Hi,
I have bought an engine for my current project, but im not sure exactly what it is. Im hoping someone here who knows what to look for will be able to tell me what to look for.
The engine number is missing so no ideas from there.
The Barrels have 31K stamped on them so I know there from the the 31K the Head has YPVS on the side of it. So i think the top end is the 31k.
Is there a way of identifying the bottom half? Is it possible that its a 4l1 bottom end with 31K top end and how can I tell.
Even if this is the case, are there any problems that this would create if I was to leave it as is?
Thanks in advance

If it has one ( towards rear of top case) it is probably a 31k unless someone has converted it. If it has a blank fitted it will be a 1UA or 1WT (same) and if the case has no blank that can be removed it is a 4CE (R) Hope that helps, Steve.

THX a lot You have a 31K RD350 Yamaha Powervalve engine. YPVS.

thanks a lot for prompt reply. Doubts are cleared, believe or not just yesterday I found her on advert...took lorry and did 1100 km to grab it...She is in solid condition but it is not as I want. She is going to general overhaul...probably a bit oversize...make up and enjoy ride...as well looking for RD 500 but it looks like... Mission impossible...350's are hard to find very very rare...500's only with good luck and deep pocket. Attached photo is from advert, when I start with project there will be fully reported...sure additional advices and guidances will be highy appreciated...obviously belly pan missing That's a nice enough looking bike to start with
