Sorry to hear about the cause of your changed situation. I wish you all the best.
I have experience of this when a previous partner had a sub arachnoid haematoma which required surgery to clip the affected vessels. Your comments about it not being as bad as it could have been, struck a chord, as I saw others in the Atkinson Morley hospital who were far worse than her and the surgeon who operated said that only 1 in 3 who suffer this survive! She made a good recovery, though was never quite the same again, both physically and mentally. I hope your recovery goes well and, in my experience, it is as much about your state of mind and approach as it is to your physical state. My partner was quite negative about the situation and she struggled, yet another friend who had the same issue, but was very positive about things, was back to doing the things she did before, in a few years. I was surprised when I spoke to people about it when it happened, to hear how common it is and that many people suffer with this, and no one has a clue if it might happen to them, unless you have had a brain scan recently. The original bolt from the blue!
You are probably already aware, but if not, the charity Headway were very good in helping my partner after her experience.

Sorry to hear this.
May 2020, same thing, stroke which affected speech, hearing and top right hand side of my body.
Walkingā¦. Yes, it will be hard at first, I was quite unbalanced at firstā¦ they offered me a stick, but me being me ā¦ declined it, possibly stupid, I know, but I figured that Iām starting as I need to go on. It took a whileā¦.
Took about 6 months before I thought to try a motorcycleā¦. I still kept my licence as I passed all cognitive tests, just couldnāt speak fullyā¦. Getting on a bike was easyā¦. Until you set off!!
Just remember the brain has had a rewire and the reset button pressedā¦.. so you will know how to do a task, it may not happen in the same way or a quickly until the healing has completed.
The only thing I made the mistake with was using the only bike I felt confident with due to it being very light, my KTM 690SMC Rā¦. Which on reflection wasnāt a good choice to start re learning!!
I gave it some thought and traded for a new Honda Forza 350ā¦. Crazy? Not in the leastā¦.. light, very comfortable BUTā¦. No clutch or gears to use valuable brain processingā¦. I simply twist and go.
Still had the LC, and kept the Forza, it did the trick, all the re learning done, I swapped it last year for an X ADV 750. Iām a scoot convert it is the go to bike nowā¦.
3 years on, I still have a little residual from the stroke, but at 95%, I can live with that.
Remember! Everyday, you may have a gain, one day youāll take a day backwardsā¦.it is hard, but it may well get better, donāt stop striving to your own goals.

Thats shit Rigga, I hope your recovery continues and you get everything back, it is very focussing losing ability, I learnt to walk again and although my balance is not great when walking I'm like a teenager on a bike and balance is brilliant then. Hopefully you'll you'll be able to forget how bad you've been in the future, after me telling my wife I wasn't that bad after my spinal compression and her telling me are you kidding, your best mate was crying his eyes out on the doorstep after seeing me from shock. It takes a while and there is no saying you'll get everything but try and make something a bit better every day. Good luck pal Andy

Thanks guys , some positive replies from those who have been through similar too.
Three weeks at home today, mentally I'm feeling so much better, than I was in the rehabilitation center, better surroundings helps. Walking is getting better, good days and bad as above, but I'm focused on the end goal here. I'm feeling positive about the situation, not as bothered about driving and riding, as I thought I would b, but the bigger picture health wise has took over, I know I'm struggling with basic tasks, and I need to improve a lot.
So glad this hasn't fallen on deaf ears, and lots of you are interested, or similarly affected, so I'm getting first hand feedback

Iām really sorry to hear this Rigga.
Itās so true that you never know what is going to happen or when. We had major upset and upheaval in the family last year with my daughter.
Weāre finally getting there though.
It will take time but Iām hoping youāre on the road to recovery. Just donāt try to rush it.

Good to hear you're making progress, really good, and in a fairly short space of time too.
Keep at it and take the small wins as big results, congratulate yourself on the things you can do rather than getting frustrated with those you can't.

Hi, sorry to hear about your health issues but it sounds like you're making positive progress towards recovery. The lighter nights and slowly improving weather should help. I guess I've been quite lucky in my life so far but it can all change in an instant I know. It's good for us to be reminded of that from time to time. Wishing you all the best in your continued recovery, Steve.

Lads, I'm overwhelmed by all the positive noises you're posting, really makes me proud of the forum we are all part of, it's not just about the bikes , I'm guessing we are all of a similar age, so maybe my situation resonates more than it otherwise might . On that note, I had a couple of years with early retirement, it was going well , money was shite, but all that free time, would recommend it to anyone thinking of going down that route. My situation should indicate that anything could happen to anyone, at anytime , you never can tell, I was for all to see, healthy, and doing the right things , and still shit happens ,
Look after yourselves, be lucky, I wish you all the best.

Totally understand where your original post was coming from Rigga. I had a bad bike accident last year, which resulted in 7 broken bones, an exo frame on the leg for 5 months. Unfortunately, this caused a blood clot which led to a stroke š¤¦āāļø and loss of license due to loss of peripheral vision to one side. Iām mad on cars and bikes so itās like your whole life has ended. Bit dramatic but until it happens to you, you just donāt know how it feels. Make the most of every small thing you do because you donāt understand how it is actually a very big thing if you canāt do it, if you get what Iām hopelessly trying to put into words.
Anyway, the hardest part of it all for me was the mental side of things. Once you can come to terms with it, which it seems you have now, life gets better and easier. As you said, it could have been a whole lot worse and now every day is a bonus and another ticked off on the road to recovery.
Best wishes for your future mate and keep those bikes and cars as a target to get to. It will happen mate. We will both be back on the road one day soon !

Iām afraid not Ronnie I can only see 10 degrees of peripheral vision to the left in both eyes. One eye and I would be ok. Doesnāt look good for driving again at the moment. You can appeal after 12 months which I will do in 3 months but I doubt they will allow it unless my vision improves, which it probably wonāt now. Never say never though as mentally, it helps to believe you will at some point ! For now, I will keep rebuilding bikes and blasting, powder coating and vapour blasting for others that need it, just to keep me busy ! And I can ride them up and down the drive š
