Hello !! Deleted the other thread and now put in the right section, my bad. Just on with building my YPVS race bike for this year, its my first (and probably only) RD build, but am quite enjoying it. Its for a second ride in the Classics, so I decided to try and build a bike for under a grand....and I think I should be able to do it. Have been collecting bits and making bits as I go along, but started off with a 29K frame and 31K swinger for £20 (numbers not tampered), and an engine with only 6000 miles for £90 ! It has on GSXR SRAD forks at the minute, but they are coming off an FZR400 1WG forks going on as they look better on the bike than the big 45mm ones at the minute. Frame is braced, to stop it flexing somewhat. It has a shock off some Yamaha, that I made fit (possibly R6) and the wheels are RGV rear and ZX6R front, but probably going to go all Suzuki as the front is a tad heavy really. The carbs arrived fro the States, VM34's and the Zeeltronic is next months present. An alloy replica tank will be made (I bought a rusty one off Colin for the 'mould'), along with a fibreglass rear seat, moulded off a stock 31K unit, with the twin seat moulded in so it looks totally stock from a distance- blue number plates will be stuck on for that authentic proddy bike look, and a nosecone fairing instead of a full one. Pipes will be made, to our spec, with big fat bellys. It hopefully will be ready for round 2, in May, if not then deffo for Junes meeting. Pics not great from my works phone...

Cheers. ;D 1WG FZR400 forks on their way, along with some triple clamps. Get these big SRAD forks off...looks a bit daft really. Just found out my back wheel is NOT and RGV one, it seems to have a larger cush hub so must be off an RF400 or 400 Bandit?? So, will either get some FZR 3TJ ones to keep it all Yammy, or just go with the one I have and accept the weight !! Which may be easier as there seems to be loads of Bandit ones. Or look out for some RGV wheels, but they seem quite rare - the 17" rear anyway. Oh hum, the joys of bitsa racers.

Well, my FZR 1WG forks and yokes arrived today, they will look a lot better than the SRAD ones on at the minute. Not too bad really, £70 for the lot and only slight pitting on the chrome that goes between the yokes so happy days !!!
Will be next week when I fit them as I am racing minibikes this weekend, once thats out of the way its full on bike building.

minni bikes LOL so not a lot of diferance to a ypvs then. Probably more reliable... This is me from Sunday (no 19), 4th with some carburation probs. 160cc, 19hp (or so), fully adjustable suspension, trick head, slicks, wets, tyre warmers.....ha ha, its just like real racing !! Its a good laugh, but nothing like real racing although its dead scrappy, in one race there were 5 of us nose to tail for almost the entire race - brilliant out of season craic.

Thought I'd give an update...its about time ! So, after round 1 of this year I was left mechanicing for Dad on his RG500 (long long story). I got a bit fed up, and just sorta played with the RD and work was so busy I was finding it hard.... get home late, and then go to Mum and Dads to work on the bike, get home late from there, go to work, come home late, go to Mum and Dads...I actually got a bit burned out but and had to work in Italy too which didnt help, hey ho. Plus it was taking longer than I expected too, coming up with solutions that would have been easier (but more expensive) to buy, rather than make. So, I finally got it ready for Snett CRMC the night before race day, ignition was too advanced and the result was a holed piston after 7 laps so that was me spannering for Dad again. Our strobe didnt work and we took a guess on the flywheel position - turns out the Zeel unit fires on the leading edge and not the trailing edge (I made my own disc flywheel and not the heavy stock one). Modded teh stock FZR400 froks to take R6 internals and cut off 80mm from the lenght. Sorted the Ignition out and bought some jets. Cadders, next meeting. OK in practice it felt good, then the pick up mount broke off..another JD failure. Lashed it back up but missed my first two races and had a couple of slow races in the afternoon but was actually not bad, suspension waaaay off and chattering like fook which was scary. Front end was diving faster than me at that MILF party...On Sunday, it oiled up on the line and PV wire came off on ..DNS and DNS - when will it end ! Aaaarrrgh. Did a load of suspension mods to it after Cadwell, stiffened the compression stack in the shock and forks and decided last Friday to race at Aintree that Saturday. Mainly to set it up for 2011 and cos I hadnt raced since Pembrey at the start of the year and needed a fix ! Ended up coming third in the SS400 Final and winning the Forgotten Era 500cc + 1300cc combined race with the fastest lap out of the whole field which included FZR1000's and a couple of RC30's !! Woohoo ! Slashed about a second off every time I went out cos it was getting better and better set up and I was getting used to riding it too. Bike is almost perfect now, some slight chatter in the front but that is down to the low speed damping of the forks being too weak, some winter mods to that shim stack and BINGO, it should be a really good fun bike. I must admit, its a hoot to ride, about as quick as the fastest SS400 at Aintree and I am guessing more to come when I get it running sweeter. I love the bike, it seemed to attract a lot of attention at Aintree which was pretty cool, some jokes about the seat which I find quite funny, but I wanted it to look very much like an RD at the end of the day and I reckon it does. Total cost to build £1313 (+all my own labour) !!! Ha ha, how good is that ! Snett (holed piston) Cadwell.. Aintree Result !!!!

Hmm.. are you SURE the Yama pulser coil signals on the leading edge Twostroke shop tech maintains that it triggers on the trailing edge.

Saw this at Cadwell, looked to be going quite well in practice, wondered where it had gone come race time. What's the fairing off, FZR400? Love the retro look with 31K seat unit, reckon that would give my LC a hard time

I dont know about the Yamaha stuff, its got a Zeeltronic and a disc flywheel we made which has two raised notches and we have a single pick up. The strobe lit up on the leading edge (well maybe just past it really) when we set it up after we got the strobe working. I use an electrex coil, but one side blew (strange) so switched to a Dynacoil we had spare, at Cadwell. Unless something else is happening....but we will look at it again during the winter.

Its much better now, cant wait for next season ! The fairing is 1986 TZ250 S, I was looking for a standard RD nosecone but I was running out of time so got this instead.

Yea i know that feeling, took me a while to get the LC steering straight and not pattering Particually bad at Pembrey for some reason and Clearways at Brands was truly frighting
