Thanks buddy I’ve bought a slow action throttle and a venhill soldered nipple cable so got to get that done. I went to a Greeves specialist today top bloke who has helped me out loads. I’ve got 3 in the next 4 weeks just desperate to get out and ride the bloody thing. Thinking as well about a triumph engined Greeves trials special can get a chassis relatively cheaply fit a 5ta engine. 👍

Have a conversation with Rob Silver @ Drayton Frames who make fitment options for the 5TA. I have his contact details.
I too seriously considered the Triumph Twin and very nearly swapped my '66 Bonnie for one. Those engines do sound lovely & you need to rev them FYI which is very unlike my B40 Drayton..
I'll post some pics from my phone of the Draytona as the chap called it.
Good luck getting the bike ready & if you want to have a ride on my Drayton just to get the feel for it, you're welcome. They ride very well indeed.

Not the best of pics, but you get the idea.
Moving between my B40 & a modern Gas Gas 250 2T, the Gasser is so much lighter and easier to handle. This is why I'm building the new Bantam Pre-65 bike when my frame arrives..

This is my inspiration mark it’s from a book my dad gave me from early 1960’s Couple of mates have 500 bottom ends with 350 barrels bored for tiger cub pistons so they are 400 cc Another mate has a metisse with a 500 Gp motor v rare and trick. I grew up with Triumphs dad always had them which led to me owning a few incl a 65 bonnie. My older brother still has my dad’s old 78/9 T140 e.

Nice scrambler that & not for the faint hearted either..
Mate of mine has a DOT scrambler with I think a Villiers 2T motor - similar front end.

Yes they are looked at James and at a DOT but decided obviously on the Greeves. I do love the Drayton framed bikes they are properly good looking bikes. I’ll see how I get on with mine I’ve a few things I want to do to it, and may yet go to a ceraini front end.

It seems to be more of a challenge than most LC hybrids. Keep at it Tim.

So as you can see it’s totally off centre, at this point I ordered further parts including this wheel So this is a scrambler wheel with the alloy heat shrink on the hub not strictly correct but I’m not a concourse kind of bloke. It’s also missing the washers on the spokes where they meet the hub but it’s a reconditioned hub with new rim and spokes and has the correct off set. I also got a few others bits including a new spindle as the last one was warped. Then rebuilt the above wheel new bearings, seals etc Then refitted the old throttle just for the now. Went for a quick blat in the paddock. So first observations, the front brake is crap but I have fitted new shoes etc, it is physically tiny, it’s not powerful or anything remotely maybe Suzuki gp100 power. The handling is interesting and I’ve loads more to do to it. Got my first trial next Sunday so we will see.

So as to be expected. Spent time yesterday bedding the shoes in, and tweaking the cable etc so it finally stops. Went to load it on my trailer it refused to start. So I popped to the trail in Lincolnshire anyway. Got home a little bit ago having spectated for a couple of hours. Set my mind to getting it running. Cleaned the carb and jets. Kicked it over yeah it’s running then bang. It shot the spark plug out the head. It’s in desperate need of a helicoil/time sert. Ffs.

PMSL, the previous owner of this would have done that. Tim, this is rapidly rivalling Naich's LC for iffyness and DPOs. Take heart, it will be great tho when its done

Take heart, it will be great tho when its done Tbh the old buy in haste regret at leisure you’d think I’d have been more switched on. That’s the problem when you don’t know the bikes. Some of the bodges have been done so well that even knowing I’d have struggled to spot eg the nuts rammed into a tube and cut for wheel spacers etc Short term I want to be able to compete long term I’m afraid it will be stripped and totally rebuilt.

Keep at it. I had a fair few issues with my B40 & with the exception of the hubs which I really don't like so will replace, it's a good competitive bike now - unlike the rider. Rode a modern bike trial yesterday on my Gasser and after the initial trepidation at the climbs/descents went home with a smile in 1 piece!
