I had a white and red T reg RD250E when I was 17 which met an unfortunate end on a very wet road possibly too quick on a bend over a manhole cover clipped kerb and we both bounced of a wall I broke a few bones including 3 vertebrae RD was very broken and like a banana by the time I recovered feckin law changed so should have been a 125 and 2 part test erm no think not so I purchased My first of many lc's reg no A190UUU a white and triple blue striped RD350LC and dealer fitted a bendy sidewinder side car so only 1 part test to do happy days rode it home removed sidewinder and L plates naughty naughty only to refit them 2 days before test which I passed So took them off when I got home and sold them both to a mate 6 months later who did exactly the same lol sold as I replaced with a new 31K RD350YPVS. Omg sidecar on an LC, like a fine wine with coca cola! So funny but genious. A sidewinder sidecar was more of a shower tray on a small frame with small single wheel and attached to your bike via a hinged mount so you could still lean both ways which was great until you forgot it was actually attached usually whilst over taking or going past parked vehicles lol and caused havoc doing a wheelie unless you bungeed it up lol was a loophole for a few years but people went silly as you could buy anything not a restricted 125 but like my mate did a kawasaki z1300 and sidewinder as a learner bike on l plates mad times

I have a similar schematic/cutaway of the RD500 i will take a picture and post it also if anybody is interested. Even though I've had x2 500's I definitely prefer the 350's. Likewise, I've had 2 x 350's and a 500. I got the 500 straight after my LC2 and I hoped it was a better bike. The 500 was a good bike, but the 350's are the most fun to ride.

'Twas the clapped out shitbox TDR250 I hired on Keffalonia what got me hooked. I had had an aircooled RD350B prior, but the TDR was so many levels above it blew my mind. Recently had a 4yr fling with a proper 350LC, but just sold it.

My mates neighbour kept his red/white 350 in his garage back in 82. Being 16 and riding Rd50m & TS50 we lusted after an LC, read MCN, followed ProAm & Allen Carter in GP’s. Spent more time sitting on his neighbours LC in the garage than riding our peds. The day came when the LC owner took us out for a spin pillion (he was a National license MX rider and could ride a bike) holy shit!!! Year & half later I had my own 4l0, Mead Speed fairing, rask rear sets etc, 2 weeks later it was gone, stolen out my back garden over night. Cars & numerous oil burners followed but I never forgot the ‘buzz’ of the LC. Roll on 2015 after years of umming and arring I brought a mint red/white 350 on eBay after a few to many beers and loved every mile until the gearbox played up and the bike was parked. Bikes have been my life but I’m at a point that modern super bikes on track & road are too much and not enjoyable at 57. The answer is simple, get my 350lc fixed for weekends and buy a TZ250 for trackdays instead of the Panigale V4 - you never forget your first love and more often than not life goes full circle.

I think that this is the best thread ever. I've have really enjoyed reading about everyone's journeys into the bike world. Fantastic. Long live the LC...

Had a love of all things bikes since I was young boy - when my brothers mate got an RD250LC, I was 13, and it looked like alien technology compared to current bikes, seemed space age - fast forward couple of years - all my friends were bit older than me - and all had bikes-in that group - 2x GSX250, 2x 250 superdreams, and a GS550e - then one of my mates without telling anyone - chopped a Superdream in for a very early Power Valve - and just turned up on it on it one day - I can still remember now being fascinated with the whirr-whirr of the PV cycle - he took me on the back of it - Jesus Christ - front wheel lifting everywhere - within a year it was nicked, never to be seen again , replaced with an 84 PV, that one lasted couple of months, again nicked, never to be seen again - pics below show the second one he had - the memories of those days - is the reason why I am restoring a LC2 right now -

For me it was the N1 always. I'd served my learner years on a variety of bikes and was on a TS125X at the time. I took the N1 out for a test ride from Brian Leask motorbikes at Gatwick. pootled off down the A23 and when out of sight gave it the full beans and the front came up. Spent 20 minutes breaking plenty of speed limits and signed the docs when I got back to the shop.

4LO for me, just past my test at 17, couldn’t wait to get something bigger than my AR80. It was a right dog, as it was a stolen recovery, but didn’t care, got some 2nd hand calipers, passed its mot, no stopping me.

My first bike at 17 a 1985 red RD125LC. Loved it and went everywhere on it. My second bike a RD125LC mk3 in marlboro colours, had no end of problems and put me off and went on to 4 strokes. Recently been hanging my nose over wanting a RD350LC

I can remember i think in the 90s an article about 2 just about identical 350 lcs, it was a full colour middle double page photograph of the bikes and i thought at the time WoW if only i had a bike like that. both were white bodywork, not sure if they had decals or not, light blue frames and wheels, chrome microns and rentec rad guard, they just looked the Nads! Cant remember what magazine it was, may not even be in circulation any more. I will be putting together another LC this winter and would love it to be the same as these bikes were. If anybody can remember that artical or even better has it stashed somewhere could they please show it for us all, I have done searches on google but havent found the magazine or artical. Anyone Remember? Cheers

It was Performance bikes and used to have a copy. The articles have been posted on this forum previously.

Hi there, am i able to access the post, im new on here and still green ?? try the search function and use as few words as possible in the search, too many will bring up all sorts of results, it's not perfect but can often bring up the posts you need. So instead of "how do I bleed my brakes", use "bleed brake", or even just "bleed", you will get more hits to check through, but will have more chance of finding the right one you want.

I said 350lc but there were two local lads on identical blue RD125LC's hooning around the estate that I have memories of. Plus a red and white 31K YPVS,the bloke would ride round slow and at will just keep bringing the front end up.

My friend Stuart bought one brand new in 1981 - white with blue. I was 16 he was 17 - I was in awe. It was so much better than all the 250’s the other lads had ( Superdreams, XS 250’s. Z250’s GT 250’s and a step up from a X7) Couldn’t actually afford one of my own until 1985 when I got my first decent job. A Kenny Roberts livery yellow 250 - £595

I had an early 350LC way back when they first came out, red and white, absolute hoot to ride and own and I miss it even now but I do have an RD500LC which I bought new when I traded in the 350 so I guess I'm just greedy really wanting to own both.

The one that made me fallen love? The mars bar 350, I was running around on a bent, bodged pos X7 as it was all I could afford (£300.00 I seem to remember) My mate got a mars bar 350, I fell in love with it but could not afford one, around £750.00 at the time I think. A mate at work got a scruffy mars bar 350 and a bloke I knew in the local bikers pub had " the fastest LC in the county (he did ride like a nutter) that was a mars bar 350 too.
I ended up getting a huge loan (£1200) and going to my local big bike shop to buy a late registered (C plate) mars bar 350 with super low miles but it was sold when I got there. Bought a nearly new N1 instead, which I loved. P/X ed that after a couple of years for a 500 that was a huge disappointment and moved on to bigger 4 strokes.
The 350 mars bar only happened 30 years later and is as good as I hoped!

I got my 250 new, complete with L plates, after saving up from a Saturday job….
On day of my test, went to the test centre, in school uniform as was in Sixth Form, passed test, removed plates and went into school…..it was in the days when teachers still rode motorcycles…. One came out of the building, aghast….. saying…. You can’t ride that…. You haven’t a licence…. You have no interest in these things…..
Calmly took pass certificate out of pocket, and wafted it under his nose…..
He looked at me and then the LC….. and said…. For God’s sake son, take it home, carefully…..result, day off!
Those were the real days of biking…
PS….. Red and White!
