Hello all,
I know some forum members have Metmachex swingarms on their bikes. I was lucky enough to find one (new old stock) for my YZF600R Thundercat.
But the problem now is that I can't use my rear stands due to the arm's underside brace. I reached out to Metmachex, but they no longer manufacture bobbin kits for my bike...
I was wondering if anyone here could give me some pointers on how to install my own bobbins?
I was thinking of using 75mm M6 bolts going through a sleeve "in the holes" of the swingarm used for the bobbin kits, (-I don't know how to post pics).
Thank you for any advice,
e.

Hi Welcome to the forum Did you ask Tamsyn or Garry at Metmachex Swingarms Ltd ? They are not part of Metmachex Engineering, so I wonder if you called them by mistake ? www.metmachexswingarms.co.uk/Dusty

Yes, I did speak with Tamsyn, but the swingarm was made when they weren't the owners, so she said she couldn't help me. I bought the swingarm from Tamsyn over a year ago, but have only recently mounted it. I then contacted Metmachex Engineering, and they couldn't help me, either.

The bobbins need to be small or they will hit the exhaust

Mouse has just added bobbins to his Fz750/1000 bike. I believe he bought threaded ali tube from ebay, and had the tubes welded on by Glenn, our local welder. A straight forward enough job for someone that can weld ali. Maybe Mouse will post the pics ? Dusty

I sure will! IMG_0589 I bought these on ebay, they are called 'standoffs' and as Dusty said, had them welded to my swingarm for the bobbins to be screwed into. HTH Mouse

Maybe in the future I'll have to go this route, if I can find someone who welds. For now, I'll be trying to utilize the existing holes in the swingarm. I wish Metmachex would tell me what the bobbins kit consisted of....back when they made them. Maybe I'll get lucky and find a fabricator who can do something....

You really need to post some pics so we can help.. I have some bobbins here sat on a shelf, but no idea if they're suitable without a pic. The other option may be to make some difference receivers in the paddock stand?

Odd they are not threaded.. Looks a bit JMC like that arm.
I think if it were me I'd make up some bobbins that just slid into the holes.

Think I'd just get some top hats made with a threaded hole m6 or m8 hole through it
Insert from inside and bolt the bobbins to the outside

Probably have to go to a machinist. I don't want to scratch up the swingarm, either.... I could just throw in some giant bolts and nuts and call it a day, but I'd like it to look nice after all this trouble.

I'll probably buy some spools from Driven racing and see what happens. I would gladly pay Metmachex for a kit....I wish they'd make me one.
