Simply Astounding .. Not the bike as it views as a decent example. But the prices People in economically ravaged UK are seemingly willing to pay, for a 40 yr old motorcycle of small intrinsic value. Simple supply and demand. I do wonder whether the UK market is different to other countries due to several factors? One being the LC gaining iconic status when the 250 was responsible for changing the learner cc limit law? Also was the policing the same across other countries? Weather also may have played a part? Power delivery a pain it snowy countries, and the need to have some kind of protection (even if it were a paddock jacket boxing boots an a simpson) too much for hot countries? Jon

Why is it that there are so many restored bikes for sale within a few hundred miles of being "finished?". I believe that the people doing the restorations mean really well but don't have the skills to get it right and of course don't find out until it's finished. I would hope to use any bike that I restored and not sell it but perhaps it's financial pressure? For me, newly restored bikes are a no-no unless you know who did it. A really good bike in this apparent condition is nowadays way more expensive than this is, I suspect this bike is one to miss?

I wouldn’t say it isn’t finished just we all have different standards. For some they may not have the skills/patience/funds to take it further. Matt, Steve and dusty build some mega bikes to a very high standard that’s what they enjoy once built generally they’ll flog them to help pay for the next build. I’d definitely be happy with any of their builds. That’s because they’ve high standards and they know what they’re doing. Again Rob recently sold one of his finished builds again it was top quality. What would always put me off is if I don’t know the builder and they talk about shambits this and that. Or there are obvious inconsistencies. Often you’ll find that the cosmetics are fine but the real basics are lacking.

I think the answer lies in a quick read of Dr Faustus, Mephistopheles in another guise offering the chance of eternal youth to the retched and ravaged souls of this land … consequently there is a long queue of the hopeless marching without free thought under his power… me? I sold my souls years ago… I could be in for a big shock and be stuck in purgatory for eternity, but at the mo I’m minded to think you are simply a long time dead and heaven is on earth owning a smoker !

Was talking to another "restorer" about my DT200 resto and how I`d spent a bomb and loads of time replacing all the needle roller bearings in the swing arm and the swing arm linkage, and a brand new Yss shock. "don`t see the point if its not shagged" Me " its 32 years fakin old man" At least i know i`ve been through every nut bolt seal and bearing, where hes simply powdered the frame, had the bodywork painted and lashed it all back together. Was running and sounding ok so never touched the engine. Where as I`ve ripped mine to bits just in case. Aye horses for courses

Totally agree every nut and bolt, spring and seal on mine is new all engine internals new or refurbished. My approach was so it once and do it properly some builds for sale are I guess more cosmetic than anything.

yep, im with you pair, its all or nothing for me. it annoys me that people do a job that looks good and then sell it on.
reminded me of this video i saw this week about a Landcruiser that looked great, but really was just bodged.

Totally agree every nut and bolt, spring and seal on mine is new all engine internals new or refurbished. My approach was so it once and do it properly some builds for sale are I guess more cosmetic than anything. Likewise. Finding things like three different sized bolts holding the airbox lid, one of which was imperial, when stripping the LC. I knew I couldn't put it back together like that, so had a lot of new parts delivered and spent a lot, but I'll know it's been done to my standards when I finish the rebuild and go out for a ride. I suppose it's the difference between working on "your" bike and one you are just moving on, for the money.

I think it looks good some nice parts, the paint scheme doesn’t offend me. But the thing that does mix it up is we have an 80’s bike with 90’s parts and 00’ paint scheme. Still a good build but if we bought it we’d always find things to change to make it ours, I think that’s what they call individuality isn’t it ? And as to the price … its what someone will pay after all.

I personally like it, but I'm a lover of hybrids. There are plenty of nice standard examples out there and whoever built this bike have built a nice hybrid, yes there is always something you or I would change, but for me it's a nice example and at a reasonable price at the minute, I imagine it could make £8k or more on the right day when you see how much some others go for.
