Hi all,
Sorry to start again a thread about tyres, but the latest posts I have seen are from almos 10 years ago.
I have been able to solve all stability issues with both my 31k,s
I use one for classic races only and the other for street use (and ocasionally track use as spare race bike).
The track bike is mildly tuned, heads, flowed cilinders, reeds cages plus housing, carbon reeds, Arrow expansion pipes, internals of front forks, R6 rear shock conversion with modified valving, Triumph T595 brake calipers. The bike is fast and reliable and is keeping up very well against much bigger 4 stroke classic bikes.
I am currently using BT45's and its ok but they get very hot on track (track temperatures in Spain are high!) and although I have had no big surprises I can feel the rear starting to slide coming out of corners towards the end of sessions.
Handling is fine considering its a 35 years old bike, in long fast corners a bit of "bouncing" but that is because the front fork is not up to the job, no really strange movements at top speed, stable under hard braking. Only flaw the "stepping" a side of the rear when the tyre gets hot. Also probably because the BT45 rear is rather "flat" and it is very easy to get on the edge of tyre thread. That is why I would also be interested to get a bit more triangular tyre (raced in the 70´s with Dunlop KR 96 rear but cannot efford that now).
Running 100/90 front and 110/90 rear. Tyre pressure 2.0 cold front and rear
Thinking of going 90/90 or 100/90 front and think of 110/80 or 120/80 rear.
Don't think I need a wider rear tyre and even am afraid that this might upset handling.
Thinking of sticking to BT45's , or change to ContiClassic Attack, Avon or Heidenau.
Any recommendations for track use only appreciated
