So whenever someone is asking for advice about buying a bike ,there’s always someone saying make sure you see the receipts for the work claimed done ,so how often in our hobby do you actually get a receipt , i build my own bikes i buy of the internet and only get paypal receipts, you don’t get receipts from Norbo or Mark Dent ,so what do you do when you have a buyer (like i do) insisting on receipts, its making me think he’s trying to get my bank details!!

I always print off my ebay orders, especially if they don't come with a receipt. I try to get as many receipts as possible, you do from Fowlers, Suzuki Expert, Yambits etc. Norbo doesn't normally provide, so I just print off my emails to him when I order something of reasonable value. I also keep a spreadsheet on every build, and happy to show that to any prospective buyers if they ask.

ps - if Norbo reads this, he did hint at getting an on-line order facility to his shop, that would normally provide buyers with a receipt. Fingers crossed he gets something sorted.

The huge pile of NOS bags carefully arranged on the carpet and lovingly photographed is as good as a receipt?....IF it's appertaining to the sellers build. But receipts can be conjured up just like photo's by the devious. If someone is on the fiddle and lying about the work it's a case of caveat emptor. Unless you are buying one of the builds documented by reputable enthusiasts on here then it's just like buying anything else off someone you don't know.... get it as cheap as possible just in case it needs a crank ect. You can also have all the receipts.... but it is no guarantee that the pistons are not installed back to front or the wrong worm drive is on an oil pump.......

I would always see to ask receipts if possible now if Johnny no mates has built the engine I’d be asking pertinent questions eg follow Haynes manual re crank seal etc if however it has provenance eg Dave has built it I’d be un concerned. When I built my last I kept all receipts and all parts bags etc. nothing wrong with asking the question however if it can’t be proven I’d be slightly sceptical of a rebuild.

Id be sceptical unless i knew the person who built it but that cant happen very often ,receipts and bags for seals and washers mean nothing well not to me

That’s kind of what I’m saying stu, I’d trust a dozen people on here plus Dave and TB Dave (who built my motor) , otherwise it’s being sceptical, I’d also do a fb search see what they’ve posted on Lc forum do they know what they are doing? Do they pretend they know what they are doing or are they a complete Walt?

Unfortunately some buyers are more comfortable with paperwork than reputation.
It’s usually those who can’t see the standard of build/quality themselves, and are relying on that paperwork.
No big deal really unless you are desperate to sell.
