National emergency my arse....it's f'ing SUMMER! When I was a lad, we used to get burnt to a crisp regularly. Dad used to throw us out of't house and only let us back in when we were burnt. We were so poor we couldn't afford suncream, And yes, it was in Yorkshire
Could be a disaster north of the border.... all those blue folks getting a bit of a tan and looking healthier....

My grandparents went to Spain in the 1960s on package holidays.
They said there was a bloke who walked up and down the beach with a glass watering can sort of thing full of olive oil that he’d pour on you for a couple Pesetas to help your tan along.

I played on the beach all afternoon and being from the north of England I wasn't used to the southern sun and got badly burnt. I still remember the pain quite vividly. Still regularly burn myself though so not learned my lesson.

Ah but if I happened to go out of my house at mid-day tomorrow, don't drink much water and don't wear any sun cream and then I get sun burnt or worse, sun stroke and all of that because the authorities didn't warn me not to then I would be entitled to claim compensation. So you see we have to be warned. Them blue folk would more likely just burst into flames and be reduced to a pile of ashes instantly.

I'm preparing for tomorrow now. I am half way through a flagon of Gwatkins finest medium cider and a litre of dry mead. "They" say take on plenty fluids, so I am. Next they'll be telling me they are the wrong kind of fluids...
Other ciders are available if you like off flavours and fizzy urine. HIC!

Pfft. You want Thatcher's cider and not the crap from Tesco. Go to the farm and get a gallon of scrumpy for a fiver. I used to do just that. It has twigs floating in it so it's dinner as well.

I do get the name angle...but the Tesco stuff is catered for the masses. Original Thatchers is 8.9% and can stun cows at 40 paces. Or me just sitting down.
Alex
ps it just rained here. Still 25c...

Just sat here watching BBC Breakfast. I don't think they could be any more dramatic if it was an all out nuclear attack by Russia predicted today. Meanwhile the Tour de France carried on in 40° yesterday.

I’m having people cancel jobs on me for tomorrow.
Their companies are telling them they can’t travel to site in their air conditioned cars and vans to work in our heavily air conditioned data centre where it’s so cold I have to wear a jumper year round.
I’m off out on a bike after work, I can’t decide between the LC (jeans, heavy jacket and lid) or road bike (sexy Lycra, lightweight lid)
Get a grip ffs.

I think the problem is most people get it, just be mindful of the weather, it’s not the end of the world just take suitable precautions. Unfortunately there are people that need telling, it’s why we have warnings on coffee cups caution contents may be hot etc. unless you are explicit these idiots will do something stupid and because of the society we are will then want to blame and sue someone. Then organisation’s are so risk averse they don’t want suing. Stupid is as stupid does.

MIDDAY SCOTTISH UPDATE
It's 28 degrees, it's officially hot
Good point - women in bikinis shopping in Tesco 👍
Bad point - Fat sweaty people showing too much white flesh (turning pink fast) 👎
Well I take it that it's sweat, may just be lard melting in the heat and permiating through their skin

South Wales weather update, I pointed my digital thermometer at the concrete outside the back of my house, SW facing, 51C 123.8F, I also pointed it at my almost black RF900 tank, 145F and at some evergreen hedge 98.4F, 88.2F inside the house with all curtains and windows closed, its not the hottest part of the day yet Its hot alright.

Try 51C or more each day coupled with 85% humidity and have to wear long sleeve fluoro shirts with solver reflective bands and blue pants with two reflective bands that soak up the hid, then a lid, safety glasses and steel caps, this goes on for 5 months of the year until dry season when it drops down to -3 at night and 30C during the day
It takes some getting used to, I don't think anyone is, we just learn to tolerate it
We start putting jumpers on when it gets below 30C

It does hack me off when the news guys exagerate the heat effects. Yes it can have serious effects, but most of Europe get this weather every year and they dont have guys painting railway tracks white, cancelling school and work, all OTT

I used to inspect a crane in a paper mill, 140 deg f , massive humidity, 150ft high. We were only allowed to do 15 minutes then down for 45. Overalls, high viz, hard hat, safety harness. All clothing was soaking with sweat, really unpleasant job.😡

Cbrn kit full resi, 3 layers one of which was rubber. 20 mins top in a hot scene. You’d pore out the sweat from your socks great way of losing weight quickly.
