You are correct i remeber the cam adjusters on my brothers DT175 which had them and also had the footpegs mounted directly on the swingarm which i can attest to having ripped the heal of my new addidas runners lol. My mam wasn't too impressed at the time. Heavy gauge tube seems the way to go best of luck.

There was a time when I would spend a few hours with a hacksaw and file to make a spanner or tool that I didn't have. About the only perk this job has is access to profiling so I may as well use it. C spanner for the spindly little shocks. The shocks have spent a week soaking in a citric acid bath and are now rust free although where the rust was it's now bare steel.

It might be pushing the boat out a bit but dare I suggest you spray paint the shocks? Alex

They could be Ohlins. More likely £30 eBay Chinese.

State of the art. The Moto GP boys will want the blueprints... Alex They could do. Make it out of titanium and I would fit right in. The brief was to knock something up to support the back end off the floor bearing in mind there is no swingarm fitted and to do it as quickly as possible with minimum effort and zero expenditure. I considered using wood but I don't have much readily available. I also considered hanging it from the roof using rope but I've done that before and it didn't end very well.

Patent that stand immediatley. If it works it gets top marks in my book. A tiny bit wobbly so could be improved with a brace. Maybe on the MKII version.

Im looking at the pic above and thinking... few more bolts undone and its a bare frame, drop it at the blaster/powder coaters... split engine apart and paint the parts... not much outlay to have it looking a billion times better... but then Ive been told i always did like stuff to look perfect by an old mate from back when we were teens who Id not seen for 30 years when i showed him my fleet pics lol

There is something not quite right with the frame or swingarm. The wheel doesn't line up with the back end so it could be the sub frame or something else twisted. I wouldn't waste time on sorting the finish on the frame until it's straight or I can work out what is wrong. The swinger looks to be straight. Both the swingarm and side stand are down to bare steel but it's a bit wet for outdoor painting! I was looking the other day and thought, I'll just do the main stand and stop there and then, no I won't bother with the main stand. The exhaust is thick rust on the inside. A mate bought a new one for his and after a weekend out on it it had already started to rust. So not great quality.

Must be plenty of generic exhausts for this size bike originating in Asia you could fit to let a few more horses out?

There's a lot of rust on the inside of the silencer near the wheel but the downpipe is pretty good. I think that guy paid about £80 for his exhaust but I wouldn't even stretch as far as that unless I really had to.

I took advantage of the decent weather yesterday to use the spray booth. They spent today in the drying room or greenhouse as most people refer to it.

Jobs for Monday evening: 1) Bleed the brake, five minutes using my Toolzone pneumatic brake bleeder finishing off with the traditional jam jar and tube. All good. 2) Fill it up with oil. One litre leftover from last years VFR800 oil change. 3) Connect the new Motobatt battery. This has four connections, two live at one end and two negative at the other. The bike has two leads, both black but one has a narrow strip of green tape around the connection end. Why green? After consulting the manual for ten minutes I noticed the one without the green on has the 'plus' symbol. 4) See if it'll go. After a few presses of the button with nothing at all happening I realised a lot of the wires in front of the head stock were disconnected. Once that was remedied it started after about four presses. 5) A few laps of the lawn at 9:30pm. It sounds a bit rough but being a two valve four stroke single maybe that is normal? Anyway it only has to do 2000 miles Breaking news is I'm picking up a spare engine on Friday for £50.00. At that price I couldn't resist. The plan is to go on the VFR and stick it in the top box

Tonight the front end that was adjusted correctly a few days a go is now clunking. I'm guessing the laps of the garden have bedded everything in. A bonus is the 'C' spanner I made for the shocks is a perfect fit on the head stock casle nut so spot on for adjusting the play.
I looked at buying a numberplate off Ebay but they ask to send them original documents to prove my address my identity and that I own the bike. I'm not happy posting those off so I'll have to see about getting one local instead.
A few more hours fettling and a number plate then it's MOT time. We'll see if they have anything to say about the back end being a bit out of line.

Buy a "show plate" off ebay No ID usually needed Steve About 90% of them on Ebay seem to be show plates. I don't know what would pass and what wouldn't but I don't want to give the MOT man any reason to fail it.

Dont Halfords still do plates? Thanks for the info. Somewhere from the back of my mind there is a memory of buying a plate for the RGV after I obtained a reg from DVLA. I thought it came from a local motorist shop in Hull that does spray paints, oil and a few spares. I just gave them a call and they still do them. I'll sort it out at weekend. I had no intension of going in the garage last night, just a relaxing evening watching some TT racing but ended up in there in my work clothes fitting the new clutch cable and speedo cable. Oh and blasted and painted the indicator mounting brackets. I had a look at the wires behind the headstock briefly. When I disconnected them I thought to myself it's all pretty logical, no need to write anything down. Funny, a few months later and there seems to be quite a few wires the same colour. I'll have another go when I have a bit more time. There's no logic behind my enthusiasm, or lack of. Sometimes I really can't be bothered and others I can't wait to get in the garage and do something. I'm hoping the enthusiasm lasts long enough to finish the LC!

Just checked for you. To my amazement small plates can fail an MOT but I think you'd have to get a tester having a very bad day for them to do that. I have never had a full size one and no MOT guy has ever questioned it. However it is illegal as we all realise but most of us do it anyway. Even having the wrong colour bolts is against the law. Ask me how I know...

Yeah, has to be a 9x7 for an MOT and technically BS (EU or whatever the feck) stamped with the details of where the plate was made
But...
I've always used an 8x6 that is a show plate so no BS markings or makers details
The get out (other than the size) is that they can't prove the plate wasn't made before the new rules came in, only plates made after the rule 😉
And surely only a place where you wouldn't want to go anyway would fail an 8x6
Same kind of place that would fail you for headlight aim and make you bring it back for a retest instead of just adjusting it 🙄
