Too funny 🤣 You leaving them on? Steve I would but I don't see how they could work really. They are pretty slack on the grips. If they were replacing the grips then fair enough but they just slip over them. I might just put them on for pictures I've been looking at tassel jackets on Marketplace already At the weekend I was with the guy who's idea this whole thing was and he hasn't got a bike yet. He said that one of the main men wants to do John O groats to Lands End. I said NOOOO, that's not Lands End to JOG!

I totally get the wanting to do LE to JOG but the doing it twice would my t1ts in I live in Scotland and even when up in Wick I couldn't be bothered to do the last bit 🤣 Steve The guy (Gary) told me at the weekend about his quickly thought out plan that involved a load of them meeting at his house, sticking the bikes in a one-way-hire van and driving to Cornwall. Then doing the run and picking up another van and driving back to his house. It all seemed a bit complicated to organise for me. Even if you get 8/10/12 bikes in the van, where are all the riders going to sit? We once had 3 race bikes and 5 people in my Bedford van for a meeting at Cadwell but it's not really done now is it? Hell, we once had one in the boot of an RS2000 but that was because he didn't want to pay to go in! I said I had resigned myself to doing the trip twice. Down to Cornwall, do the trip and ride back home. Minimum 1,600 miles. If he comes up with a good idea I'll probably jump onboard with it.

One way hire is expensive as they include the price to send someone to bring it back
I'd be hiring a van for the week and having a tool kit, inner tubes and train tickets for all but 3 to drive the van full of bikes back
Either that or no van, return tickets from Glasgow/Edinburgh and a Gumtree ad with all the bikes advertised at giveaway prices 😆

I'm not thinking of taking it that far 😂 I was looking at a leather waistcoat. That could be cool (literally) riding along at 50 with a leather waistcoat on. With matching chaps would be even cooler but I'm not taking it that far either 😁

I'm watching the pennies a bit more than I usually do at the moment. I'll have breakdown cover so that's how my little bike will finish it's trip if it goes pop. Come to think about it if it happens to have a 'problem' at John O Groats then the van can bring me and the bike home saving me approximately £60 in petrol as well 😁

Paint the tank in a stars and stripes motif. Perhaps a similar jacket with 'Captain America' on it?
Or maybe not...

I made this about 20 years ago and sold it on eBay 14 years ago. Couldn't find a pic initially but trawling through old emails I found a couple. Very low res, sorry. I made the fake clocks myself and the petrol cap is off a tin of Pledge lol. Alex

I contacted the place I bought the seal kit for the caliper from because it was 9 days after I had ordered it and It hadn't arrived. He said we'll give them a couple more days and I agreed. I contacted them again yesterday and said it looks like they aren't going to appear. He suggested sending a replacement. I said do you want to wait until the end of the day as our post comes in an afternoon? He said I'll send it now. While I was out I received a message saying it had been delivered! Wouldn't you know it! That's a little job I can get on with now. The mounting screws and banjo bolt have been relieved of their rust coating and will be re-plated when I set the kit up and work out again how to use it 😌. Oh and seeing as I'm doing the LC at the same time I thought I would compare the pistons. They are the same other than the SR piston is 14g lighter. A performance upgrade 😃 One odd thing that happened was that the pad retaining pin went a kind of bronze colour from normal looking chrome when it was soaked in a citric acid solution overnight. It's never effected any other chrome like that. Strange but no big deal. Would you believe it? The Replacement seals have just arrived as I was fitting these. One lot took over ten days and the other two. The oddities of the British postal system eh? He sent a returns label so I'm just going to go for a walk to pop them back in the post.

I've always just binned any pads that come with a bike and fitted new but......this is a budget build, the pads look new apart from the cosmetic condition so a good clean with brake cleaner, five minutes in the bead blaster and a coat of black enamel and voila, new (looking) pads at a fraction of the cost, well 0% anyway. It's not like it will have any speed to be slowed is it?

Have you seen what happens when water gets in the back of the pad and corrodes
Not fun when the pad delaminates 😖
As long as you think it is solid enough

Several years ago, my wife gets home on a friday at the normal time, and puts this bunch of paperwork on the table in front of me. Turns out she did one of those direct access courses and passed her bike test first time. And she had been having lessons before that sneaking them in, pretending to be at work .... with me non the wiser!!

How would I be perceived if I was to blast and re-paint the original brake pads and re-use them? Simple..... Do your own thing... Hardly an R1 heading into Redgate is it.... I have 1981 crank seals in a bike...and they still seal.....although I havent blasted or painted them. But what about the gearboxes bearings and the big and little ends...the head bearings...and the wiring...ect...ect.....you'd best replace everything.. In fact buy a brand new bike and take any risk out of the equation...but make sure you buy a decent bike with good reputation and not some shile of pite for peanuts or cornflake packet tops. Have a word with your local risk assessment pencil squeezer for a definitive answer regarding the whole project (probably tell you never ever ride on two wheels again as they are dangerous) You could post some pics of said brake pads for a more concise opinion...but t'would be no use to me as I lost another psir of resing gkasses tiday

I used to risk death for a few quid every day in my younger days. Working on site fitting ducting and other HVAC type stuff. Our boss didn't like spending money on trivialities like safety harnesses and proper aluminium zip up scaffold towers, oh no! We hada steel tower about 4 foot square going up 30 foot with two people on it. If you took half a day longer to do the job because you wanted a proper scaffold up and he found out you would soon be looking for a new job. See, better than new!

I let her have a go on my Honda 70 on a large area of grass many, many years ago with me on the back. She forgot everything I told her and rode it into a hedge and this was on an area the size of three football pitches. No. I've said this many times and in front of her and she agrees, the World is a safer place without her riding a motorbike. Believe me .

During a thunderstorm? Oh come on! get real!! Do you think I would be that stupid sat on a piece of wood dangling at height on a length of rope during a thunderstorm?? Er, yes? Our last house was struck by lightning. Is was during a massive storm. Most of the office were looking out of the window going "ooh look at that lightning" when ten minutes later I got a phone call from the Mrs. to say the house was in a mess as it had taken a direct hit. Long story but everything electrical in the house, pretty much, was damaged and we received about £8,000 off the insurance company. Cheap way to upgrade your kit: TV, PC's, recording devices etc. Wouldn't mind another one now but you know what they say? We have moved house though so.....

I had a strike 6" ft away from me at home. It hit a shed with a steel corrugated roof. It only knacked the house phone, no electrics were bothered except the RCD which reset. Another close one was on a brewery. We were in a yeast recovery room with a steel walkway outside, an old boy had been on it when it started pissing down so he was sheltering with us when it was struck. Pretty impressive shower of sparks right outside the doorway. Shook him up....white as a sheet and shaking, good job he wasn't on the walkway....

Pretty impressive shower of sparks right outside the doorway. Shook him up....white as a sheet and shaking, good job he wasn't on the walkway.... Sounds like he had a lucky escape . I would likes to have actually seen ours. Apparently the inside walls all light up blue, so I've been told. I once quit fishing around 9pm because a rain storm was coming in. I packed up and walked to the top of a bridge over the lake and watched the lightening coming it was pretty impressive watching it in the distance and getting closer. Then I had a thought that it might not be the best place to be during a thunderstorm and cleared off in the car. We lived in a semi and it struck our TV aerial we think. There was a splitter for the coax in the loft and it used a mains powered signal booster and one of the PC's had a TV card fitted so everything was interconnected. The DVD recorder, video recorder (that dates it) and something else under the TV, maybe a satellite receiver, were 'welded' together by the current going through it. It blew a coax splitter behind the TV to pieces and blew a couple of sockets off the wall taking a bit of plaster with them. One of them was directly underneath the parrot! He survived and didn't seem to be effected by it. He did turn white though, no he didn't . Our immediate neighbours only lost a video recorder and the bungalow lost a DVD recorder. I was waiting for the insurance to say "it's an act of God." There were a few people who said they wouldn't pay because of that.Thankfully they were wrong. I guess if you believe in him then everything is an act of God. If you don't then nothing is
