Used ancillary engines for their two stroke small cc bikes, like lots of producers did esp during 60-80s. There was also a lot of badge engineering that went on, still the case today.

I can’t remember where I heard it from, but I’m sure someone told me of a certain make of car (probably from the VAG) where they popped the bonnet and showed someone peeling off a badge on the rocker cover of one brand to reveal it had been stuck over another.

Jon If you look under the bonnet of a seat you will find most components marked Audi or as you say VAG.

I would say The VAG, GM and other situation is a little different. They are really group platforms solutions with end build specification and styling to suit the family brands. The situation with the bikes, was largely a chassis builder / brand who needed a PU, and practically commercial way to do that was to use a third party one.

I did think initially that Zundap may have made the bike under licence for Laverda. Who hade the Brazian PV or was it a satelite factory set up by Yamaha?
