I've done a seach on this but just found how to get dents out of exhaust pipes.
Is it possible to repair or re sleeve the end cans on an F2?

Hi
I've never seen F2 cans resleeved
It's complicated by the fact that they aren't removable so difficult to work on
The 250 pipes of the same style had removable silencers which was better. I've had Dave Swarbrick make new cans for them but you would need to cut the old ones off on F2 pipes and get a flange welded on
Probably only way is to get a thin alloy sleeve made then slide over and roll the ends to hold it in place

Thanks for the reply Probably be easier to get a set of after market ones then You just don't see original ones in good condition for sale Any idea what a set of good condition originals go for?

In Japan they sell a sleeve for these silencers to tidy up the dents and road rash, its not cheap and not a perfect solution either, I think you bond (its glue innit?!) it on...

Anything is eventually 'possible' Give time $$ and Skills.. Or any combination of . Are you TIG capable?? If so.. cut /disassemble/ open up, to do whatever repairs needed, then tig it all back together. OEM yama welds are of the Pidgeon Shit variety.. so Easy to hide decent TIG work.

I cut the silencers off my set of F2 pipes many years ago and welded a disc with a flange around it to the end. I made a new set of silencers out of 316L stainless and fitted them by drilling and tapping the flange and using M4 dome head cap screws, they look like rivets from a distance but can be unscrewed rather than drilled out for re-packing. The silencer was a straight through perforated mesh tube but I was a bit disappointed with how quiet they were. I was hoping for a bit more and nicer sound. I made a couple of silencers for my RGV a few years ago. Still stainless ends but I used some carbon fibre tube this time for the main part. Not cheap at £100 a metre but nice. They also sound nice and the bike goes a lot better with them on. The standards cans be put back on in a couple of minutes if I had to but it went through MOT with the carbon fibre ones on anyway. I just didn't want to modify the original exhausts at all. Can't be done without cutting/welding on an F2 though. The sad thing is there was nothing wrong with my F2 silencers. I just wanted a bit more noise and maybe a bit more power so I cut them off and binned them.

Thanks for all the advice. The good news is I just managed to get a set of originals in excellent condition. Only thing is they are stamped 4CE6,which are from an '92 R model Will these affect performance at all?

As long as the restrictor washers at the header have been removed you will be fine They are at the barrel end so easy to check and easy to remove if still there but unlikely they have lasted this long Steve

I bought a 0.7mm piece of stainless plate off of ebay, I think its 251 x 252mm I then bent it round a tube to something like and then pop riveted them on each exhaust effectively covering the old one. as it was very thin it looked really good and the pop rivets were underneath facing the wheel. Might be an option for you for a tenner.

There’s never an elegant solution is there. They always end up looking like they have been messed with. if you want them to look right then best hunt down new or good condition replacements but the price of stuff is just mad these days…
