Had a new company car on order.
Had been trying to order it from Feb last year, Ford finally took the order in June
Ordered the last of the Mondeo diesel 8 speed auto in titanium spec
First delivery date was Dec 21, then Jan 22, Feb 22 then March 22
Since Feb they said June 22 and got to 5 weeks from delivery date and even had a confirmation email to say it was on track for June 10th delivery so 1 year since ordering
Got an email today, Ford has cancelled my order π€¬
I'm a little ticked off to say the least

I totally understand the parts shortage issues
What has annoyed me is that the last Mondeo rolled off the production line the first week in April so they knew back then that they hadn't made mine
Now going to have to take a hybrid when I wanted a diesel βΉ

Pre kung flu we enquired how long to get a new Vauxhall... 6 months plus...told em to poke it. Seems if it aint already in stock you are stuffed. OK if you want a basic one in white, but not if there are any listed extras wanted. Divent fret steve...it's only a shitty car..... order a van. What use is summat you cant hoy a bike in the back anyway?

That totally sucks Steve, I cant believe the didnt let you know sooner. The dealer is a joke... hmm, no change there then.
Im not sure there is stock of anything these days is there Steve? I asked around a few dealers here and if they did have something they jacked the price 25% cos you could take it away this week rather than in 6+ months... and even that is very quick these days...

I'm aware of supply issues with cars, but that's just disgraceful behaviour for a company the size of Ford.

To make matters worse they gave me a big dilemma
The company I work for is reviewing the car policy and the new policy comes out next week, it's supposed to be really good
The dilemma is that Ford have offered to replace my Β£33k Mondeo order with a Β£40k Kuga ST line X 2.5 litre PHEV π€
It's mega spec but their offer is only valid for 24 hours so I have to decide by noon today
I'm dreading a look at what you could have won moment π

That's a bit reassuring at least I suspect the 330e would be my other option but I'm not keen on it and doubt I'd get the same kind of spec Also a totally new order would be a 6 -12 month wait. I'm assuming when Ford are saying they will honour my order with the Kuga that it will be quicker as I've waited 11 months Steve

That's annoying, especially as it's needed for work.
I've pretty much given up on cars too now. Got an old beemer that I've had for a decade. To be honest, with the odd exception, modern stuff has got duller and duller.
Bikes are more fun anyway.

Within reason, we are free to choose pretty much what we want as long as its inline with our "environmental policy".. A few people have had 330e , they are great fun to drive but like most hybrids, a short battery range and then the petrol unit has to drag the weight of the battery around...so fuel economy is not as good as standard petrol car. I went for a Jag and a stick on hybrid badge for the boot, I pop the badge on when I visit head office!

I have a focus st on order since February, expecting it in October, although I expect it in the new year. Luckily I have a guaranteed part ex on my old st, so will not worry about the miles I am putting on it. Rob

A lot of places i visit, many people who have company cars due for change are being given "hand me down" cars ie someone retires and you get his 18month old car. Not ideal.

New car? Sod that. My Yaris is 19 years old now and still slightly terrifies me if something electrical decides to go 'plink'. An ECU is worth more than the car is. What you need is something made, oh, lets say 1968.

I bet when the time came to collect it they would have said the price has gone up and you would have to pay the full whack and not a deal in sight. Zig, I heard that some Pugs were now being delivered with mechanical speedos cos of the chip shortage, is that true? Abar, not all modern cars are dull, but you do need to switch off the nanny state electronics... Ahh I see the problem now, these are the same ones that are consuming all these hard to find chips... Id rather have a digital speedo than a disembodied voice from the car's dash telling me I need to stick to the limits (when its clever camera has read the limit on the back of a truck and not a real road sign!) or trying to steer me back into lane or switch off my engine at traffic lights etc. etc. Amusingly, someone thought my Yaris was a Hybrid the other day and asked me how i found it to own... Maybe i should get a Hybrid badge for it. lol

Same this side of the pond. Took me almost 9 months to pick up my new truck. Bought a new, bigger trailer and my old truck couldnβt tow it. To small. Dealer reckons sit was the chips that held up everything. He has orders out the door and canβt fill them.

Their f*ck up but punted to the back of the queue The hand me down cars is happening to us too and totally random. There's usually a good few spare cars kicking around but nothing worth having now and rental cars are thin on the ground We've had a few new starts and one was getting trains and busses around as there was no car for him One ended up with a hi spec Passat estate, one in a 3 year old Focus and the other in a Nissan Duke rental What's grinding my gears now is that I'm stuck with a 6 year old diesel paying Β£200 a month in tax Guys with newer cars are paying less than Β£100. It used to be when a company car got to 5 years the taxable value was reduced βΉ Steve

I stupidly assumed when they said they would "honour" my order and needing a 24 hour response they were trying to meet my June delivery date
I popped into a dealer to have a look at the Kuga and the sales guy said he can't even tell buyers how much a new car is when they order them as the price changes daily and they don't get it till the order is placed. That's nuts
I get the feeling that there will be a few cancelled private orders. The business and the mobility will be fine but the way the cost of living is going I dare say by the time some cars arrive the customers won't want them

Im not wholly convinced it would change the market much unless people decline their cars in vast droves. There is such a huge demand for new cars that the slack would just get taken up, not least by rental and lease and other big companies etc
