We really do get good information from the expertise on this forum & in particular the knowledge some folks have of our beloved RDs, so I have decided to buck the trend and show what I'm doing with my Elsie Hybrid!!
I bought this just as lockdown 1 was happening as (like a lot of folks I'm sure) I fancied yet another bike project to while away the lockdown blues and to give me something else to do other than cycle..
The original plan was to simply build it up nice and standard(ish), put it on the road and ride about a bit. That didn't quite go to plan as the more you look into something the worse it gets, so I kind of ended up pulling the whole bike apart and starting again. When I got to the rolling chassis being done, it just looked a bit flimsy so then the hybrid plan evolved. By this time I'd already gotten my motor sorted with Banshee pistons, Ron Fahron re-lined 400cc barrels & re-profiled head, Keihin 28mm carbs, Nikkon pipes, new rad', Vape ignition and a few other bits n bobs and all sourced from Norbo who was a great help.
To today & the bike has sat under a cover in bits with some hybrid parts courtesy of a swap shop deal with Vic of this forum and been untouched. In the last 2 years I've bought and refreshed (AKA totally rebuild) an Aprilia RS 250, RD500 (more refreshed), Montesa Cota 247 (with another to follow) and taken ownership of my RS 250 that I posted about recently & have to say what a wonderful bike that is to look at and ride. The RS suspension is now all off having a refurb and the chassis being beautified so that will take over the ramp when it's all back for assembly and the LC will be parked up for a bit.
This is what the rolling chassis looked like after I'd finished it:

& this is what I have right now:

I want the bike to still look pretty much like an LC and will be:
400cc Fahron Tuned, Nikkon Pipes, 28mm Keihin, Vape or Electrex ignition (used the Vape on an other LC..), Koso clocks in LC surrounds, Metmachex Swing Arm, ZX6R Forks, RGV Wheels, LED headlight (?)
That's about it for now and first job is to go make some spacers for the swinger as the supplied ones are too thin, turn up a new swinger spindle & nut/washers, turn up yolk fitments to suit taper rollers I previously fitted to RD head stock, fit wheels with discs, calipers etc so I can get the wheels/yokes away for powder coating having ground away the Suzuki lettering.
I'm making it up as I go here folks, so any tips/advice/recommendations or pi55 taking is most welcome!!
Wish me luck and as for a finish date...who knows!
