The next door neighbour intends to use a large crane to lift a prefab "shed" into his back garden. Only way to do it is to lift it over my property!! (driveway, garage, garden) There has been no communique from him regarding method statements and risk assessments ect. The phone line will be broken as it drapes across it's path... and the Mrs is on Gov duty (on call...closed office) and needs permanent access t'ut internet.
Can they really just roll up and lift 3 tons plus over your head and property without even a warning? He's NOT a bike fan...thinks we are all grebs! (greasers and undesirables)

Afraid they can as far as I know as you do not own the air above your property
The phone line coming down is another issue that you may be due compensation

In saying that you should have been informed. Surely health and safety demands that no person is under it while it's being done
If he's a pain in the arse check the height of the shed and distance from his boundaries 😏

You'd certainly want to see RAMS and public liability insurance then

Deffo. He needs slew rights that can only be given by you. Not sure if the police would repond or not as it may be a civil matter.

Civil matter, trespass isn’t a criminal offence and police won’t respond to it, however if the neighbours don’t abide and you then attempt to stop them you’ve got a slew of stuff, breach of the peace, harassment alarm and distress, etc etc etc then if any damage however minimal eg digging up turf, knocking a gate post etc that’s then criminal damage, so should be plenty to help you. Tbh the fact they’ve failed to inform you shows how little respect and how much arrogance they have.

Looking at the distance they need to reach the rear garden, i can only presume they will need a big crane not to mention an artic to deliver the structure. I know how much paperwork was involved at work when we needed a crane for a lift, just never been involved in any lifting in public and private property... it will have to be done on the road and over a public footpath...which i would of thought would mean co operation with the council with risk assessments ect.
TBH to find something that heavy dangling above your head must be a massive breach of the health and safety regs, I remember how safely lifting ops were done on the jobs I've been on....and I've seen slings break!!!! What a f'ing bang that one made on the engineering works floor!!! Anyway I'm forearmed. Cheers lads. And coz of covid price rises...the value of what I have in the garage is crazy...and all I have regards savings.... Found a scrap bin in there yesterday.... LC kickstart, windy gen mirror, windy ind lens, windy c footrest hangers, carb manifolds suitable for "suits you" (crazed and cracked) may be of no use at all to anybody..., a honda push rod, honda rings, suzuki crankseal, all parts numbers have faded!

I must admit I've seen a few spectacular lifting mistakes where luckily no one has been hurt. My favourite was Vibration Damper that weighed approximately 3 tons. It fell about 15 metres in height straight into the engine room glanced off a hand rail onto an aluminium walkway/floor. A few meters under the walk way was a caterpillar gen set. The walkway looked like a roller coaster ride with a big dip in it. The dip was stopped by the turbo charger from the gen set. It also fractured the turbo charger housing.

When i was an apprentice, we were loading a radial arm drill onto a flat bed lorry. Being top heavy, it tipped over onto a car bonnet, ouch. No risk assesment or method statement in those days.

Had quite a large 8 seat hot tub lifted over my house and lifted back out again when I sold the house. Was amazed both times that the slings were just slipped underneath with no positive retention..
Could've been very expensive.!

I'm sure the video and stories are helping to reassure steve h There must be simple reason but why can't he lift it over his own house? Win win. If it drops then it's just great entertainment for you. With the assistance of a reputable lifting and testing company I had to draw and have a lifting beam made for doing an off-shore lift of an air handling (HVAC) unit. When we did the test lift in front of the client representative the unit was so finely balanced that a slight shove tipped it over until it rested on the wires at one side. It could then be pushed across until it rested on the wires at the other side. basically it was tall and narrow. We found an old beam in the yard, had it blasted, tested and painted. It worked much better than the one we "designed" for the job. It was because it was shorter and the wires more vertical.
