Hi guys, what is the best way to clear a flooded engine? I have fitted a 350 top end and carbs/oil pump etc to my perfectly running 250 and now it will not start! Good strong spark but wet plugs! New plugs fitted, fresh fuel (E5) and the only sound after 20 kicks is a wheezy old man swearing. Thanks

Thanks Do you have the correct float bowls fitted to the corresponding bodies, if not the choke circuit will not function making it very difficult to start. If it is just flooded, turn off the ignition, turn off the fuel tap, remove the plugs and either continue kicking it over like a madman or stick it in gear & run it up & down the road for a bit, either way you'll probably need a lie down before continuing your quest to start the motor. Float bowls are correct assuming the one with the drilling and tiny jet is the choke side I will have a sit down and try later to kick it over with the plugs out a hundred times or so. Thanks😀

if you have an hot air gun (paint stripper) or your wifes hair dryer, then take the plugs out and carefully heat the crankcases up with the hot air gun from underneath the engine where the crank lives, do that for a good 5 mins or so moving the hot air about so as not to concentrate the heat in one place, then try ity, that should help evaporate any fuel in the crank cases.
Refit the spark plugs and see what happens - word to the wise, make sure there is nothing of value or very clean behind the bike as if the exhausts have fuel in them, it will come out at a rapid rate if the bike fires up !

Thank you Years ago a mate used to remove the plugs and hold a lighter over the plug hole whilst cranking the engine, I prefer your method👍 It is a concern about fuel in the exhausts though , think I will take off and drain first

I knew a chap who used the match method on a Range Rover V8 engine , from the singeing on his face the Flame Front must have been impressive
