Looking good. If that is a screw on chuck, you need some way to lock the spindle to unscrew if. The myford has a pin that locks the spindle, just for this job. On my old Harrison I used to have to engage back gear without pulling the pin on the bull gear to lock it up. This never seemed like a good idea to me, but that's all there was. Yes its a screw on and i believe you lock the gears like your old Harrison. I think most smaller lathes back then did something similar, agree a pin would seem more sensible :/

Ok, my belt died lol
The stitching with the stainless lock wire failed on the corners. Funny tho as its mostly fine when used on a bike and twisted. Ahh well plan G....

I was thinking hard how to get my mill onto the cabinet & the Mrs suggested I put it on the bike workbench & lifted it hydraulically. Bugger me it worked perfectly, pumped up to just the right height & slid across effortlessly. She is happy to remind me of this, regularly.

Been watching this series on youtube. Great for those who are starting out with the lathe - she has other series as well. Very well presented by someone who knows what shes talking about as someone using a hobby lathe in her own shop. Nerdy enough to be trustworthy info and not hard to follow. Being female she wins hands down over the old blokes who stumble over their words and assume too much prior knowledge. Well thats my 2p anyway. Either way; These are great as about 7mins long, perfect for us old ADD sufferers! Full list: www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLY67-4BrEae9Ad91LPRIhcLJM9fO-HJyNEp 1

First came across her years ago, some software thing or other, that's her day job. I do watch her videos each week, she seems to be able to use her hobby sized kit to make items that you'd think were too big, and I like the fact she leaves any mistakes in, so we can all learn.

Wow! Looking at the photos looks like they just finished for the day and never went back. Can't understand them closing down unless it was due to illness or worse as so many shops here have been ultra busy during lockdowns and working from home when a whole bunch of people got back into their projects and demand for machine work went right up.

Here you go: www.facebook.com/crankshaftrebuilders/I think they had just had enough. Their google reviews werent great to be honest... I hope there are not half done customer jobs being sold for cents in the dollar by the auction house, but from what it says on Fb it seems they sold off the machines that were wanted already so this wasnt an overnight flit or shut down. Some cool equipment there, but most of it is waaaay tooo biiig for home use.

I feel quite inadequate now Above is my Taig Microlathe (sold as Peatol in the UK). To give an idea of scale the insert toolholder is 6mm. I've owned it about 10 years and wouldn't like to guess at the many hundreds of hours use it's had. Latest job was turning up some foot peg mount adaptors for my Abba stand. Colin

Dont worry its not the size of your tool, but what you do with it. 😁
