It was suggested there was a sticky thread started for parts from other bikes/sources for either NLA parts or cheaper alternatives
I'll leave it to Admin to decide whether to make it sticky or move to a section deemed more appropriate

I'll kick it off with the clock damper rings on YPVS/TZR/FZR clocks which turn to snot and are NLA Suzuki GS500 ones fit perfectly and are still available Steve

Here is one for a headlight bowl for the 31k. Fowlers list them at £220, and Norbo shows them in his shop at £85 so Norbo's looks a good price for new. I'm told they can be bought in US for cheaper.
On ebay SH ones are typically listed at £50-£60 and often a bit scratched.
Instead look for an XJR400 its the same bowl as the 31k one, and usually much cheaper. I got a very good SH one for £17, including the brackets and fasteners.
Check they are marked 'YHA 167' on the rear and they should be correct.

Fowlers are now up to £247 😱
XJR400 and R1z250 use them
Headlight unit is the same but no pilot light. Easy to drill a hole and use a push fit lamp holder
Inner rim is the same 29l part number
Outer rim is the same but silver

A YB125 fuel cap is the same as an RD500 FZ750. I bought a Chinese copy for £12 and it works perfectly on my FZ!

X7 tool kit is same as an LC virtually, just no C panner for the shock (who ever used it anyway ?), and no Yamaha on the bag, other than that, its the same kit, last one I bought from Robinsons was £25+postage !

Various XS / XJ speedometers are great to canabilise to repair / convert to miles, 4LO speedometers. Also later 400 Daytonas etc.
Some FZ750 speedometers can be used on later YPVS models. 150mph like the RD500, but with a solid red needle. I paint the needle white, then lightly remove the excess white paint on the tip, before it's dry. Works great.

Avoid XJ600 clocks if you are looking for gear parts, they are green plastic ones and about 2mm too short for 4L0 and not suitable for RD AC either. Haven't tried other XS/XJ clocks for parts so can't comment on those.

Not so much an alternative part but an alternative solution
A YPVS gear change shaft with the usual groove where the seal lip sits can be used in an LC engine
As the gearboxes are different widths the groove will be about 5mm past the seal
£100 saved

Sump plug washers :- I have previously been using the Honda crush washers for the LC/YPVS sump bolts, but found these on ebay :- www.ebay.co.uk/itm/164902339920I just got a pack of 10 for £3.39 delivered. They look identical to the Honda ones :-)

Output shaft bearing behind front sprocket. Just get a good branded 6305NR and remove the snap ring :-) Usually less than £10. e.g. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174436960197£8.93 delivered from a proper bearing company, so should not be a Chinese fake...

As in, the LC shaft in a YPVS? not as well as normally the shaft part on the LC is exposed to the elements and is generally corroded, whereas the YPVS one is inside the casing as the YPVS cases are approx 5mm wider, so the shaft where the seal sits is on nice clean metal normally

You can tell if you have the superseded one as the groove for the bolt in the end spline is only on one side, rather than all the way round like the original 4L0 one.

Even the YPVS shift shaft is a superseded item and is from the banshee
The original ypvs 29l part had the groove all the way round. Apparently those boys weren't trusted to know which way the gear lever went on 🙄

this is excellent, once it gets a good amount of items it should be made into a list. I have found sticking the original Yamaha part number in fleebay brings up different bikes with some cheaper pricing.

I bought one of these X7 toolkits about 5 years ago Dave for about that money from memory, like you say no C spanner and yeah did anyone use it, I've got a YSS shock now so it doesn't matter the spanners have made in Japan on them I'm sure

The genuine Mikuni VM16/F210 is exactly the same as the original 4L0 choke mechanism, but about a third of the Yamaha price.

great thread lads.... other than XJ550? the price of LC350 calipers is a tad salty.. im looking to add a second caliper on to a 250. anybody know other calipers that would match up to my single one?
dont really wana go the blue spot route.

An RD125LC brake light holder fits a 350LC with a little trimming. Even the mounting holes are the same. Added bonus is it recesses the rear light perfectly. How do I know? I did it.

There are also plenty of similar looking brake master cylinders for our bikes that Yamaha used so you can pick up a good value new one with a slightly different part number. This is very true of the later coffin style version, with a different first part of the no. which is great value from the usa.

I've used XJ750 front calipers on an LC in the past. Lots of other Yamahas of that age will work.
Also used XJ600 pre-diversion seat locks on an LC.
