does anyone know whether a TZR, TDM or for that mater a YPVS engine would be a straight swap into an LC250 chassis c.1982? would i also require additional electrics i.e for the power valve etc?

YPVS into LC frame is a straight swop, easy and done many times on this forum and yes the electrics would help. You can either use a complete YPVS loom but would then need clocks and switchgear or splice the 'YPVS electrics' into an LC loom (if you have the ability).
Don't know about the other two engines

Very much doubt a Tdm engine would fit. Gonna be too tall for starters, engine is canted forward too far for an Lc's frame rails, plus why would you ? It would weigh a ton compared to the Lc, plus it's a diesel !! Tzr 250 is physically shorter than an Lc, front to back, so would fit (seen one in an aircooled frame) but will need new mounting plates fabricated and welded in no doubt. Then you will need other fabrication for exhaust mounts I would guess. As Mouse said, a Ypvs engine is your best engine swap as it goes straight in. Couple of minor mods but otherwise it's a great swap. There is loads of info, and loads of owners of such "hybrids" so you are in "shallow water" with that mod Dusty

dusty350 although the OP stated TDM I very much suspect they meant TDR? The YPVS is by far the better choice though. If starting from scratch or cylinders knackered why not go the big bore route and avoid having to play with electrics. Out of interest has anyone fitted an LC flywheel and stator to YPVS engine in an LC? Jon

Ah, ok, hopefully TDR. Although there was that pic of an Lc with an R1 engine fitted ! Tdr is same sort of size as Tzr I think ? Ypvs is easy peasy, everything else not so Dusty

dusty350 not too sure as I haven’t had either a TDR or TZR but more than being ‘the same sort of size’ isn’t it the same engine? Jon

Could be Jon- I've never had them either. Sure someone will know Dusty

Yes same engines. There is an Lc with tzr/tdr fitted around it looks odd to me and doesn’t offer anything an Ypvs does but more hassle

I had a 1KT but it had a 350pv engine fitted which was bigger and needed frame mods to fit. I think a 350pv engine looks better, but that's purely my opinion Dusty

My mate has a LC with a Tzr 250 1kt motor in, the bikes frame hasn't been modified, he made mounting plates that bolt to the frame and got Swarbrick exhausts in kit form which he built up to suit the frame. There are some photos of it on Facebook, the bike has a candy blue frame, is fitted with rgv front end and metmachex swinging arm

YPVS all day long
No fitting issues, can still use the airbox and suitable exhausts readily available
Electrics wise just use the ypvs rotor/stator and either a zeeltronic or Ignitech to sort Ignition/Power valve controller. Leave the LC loom and rest of the electrics alone
LC tacho will run straight off the ypvs rev counter drive so no messing with clocks
