what holy grail items have you got lurking under your bed; in the loft or hidden away in your garage ? the type of thing you would never sell .
i will start off ; i have had stashed away under my bed for the last 15 years a pair of new old stock 4LO stanchions still in the wrappers just waiting for me to pull my finger out and fit them.
doesnt have to be LC related; tell us what you have

I'm a bit like that, I keep things for years, "just in case". It drives the wife mad Some of the "Stock" I have; CBX 1000 complete engine, loom etc 2300 miles from new until a car wiped me out and wrote the bike off. I regularly turn it over and oil the upper cylinders. Boxes of assorted 2 stroke parts for various makes/models, some left over from rebuilds, some new. Various bikes in bits that I've bought at a bargain price just in case I get round to restoring them or doing a one off build.

Holy grail items under your bed?? Does "Jugs International" magazine count? Oh and a script or something, that waffles on about hamsters and smelling of elderberries.
PS Hope the next thread isn't "Whats your address"

It’s a crazy thing to say, but you’d probably devalue it if it were ever built. But then you committing to a pile of spares that will never be a bike, or ridden, which is a shame. Just my opinion, but belongs in a museum? I’d love to see it. Maybe with a Japanese maniquin in overalls holding a JIS screwdriver? Jon

The closest I’ve got is a very low miles complete 31k engine in bits. It’s so original/new it would be a sin to use it in one of my hybrids.
Paint on cases and barrels still original and quite acceptable. Far to good to repaint over original. Rebored with genuine pistons, rebuilt crank, arrow recon pump etc etc. Even got all the side case plastics NOS. Carbs slides show absolutely no wear to the teflon.

I bet if everyone put all the parts together there would be another 10 bikes to assemble.

No bike bits but got my grandads desert rat patches (the original woven ones as later in the war they were printed to save on costs)from where he served in the Royal Scots Greys from 1937 to 1948
Also got a parachute silk flag with all the North Africa campaigns made we believe by the company he was in.
But rather than sell to a private collector to be hidden away for ever next trip to Bovington I will donate them as my two lad have no interest and they at least will go to be seen by future generations rather lost in a loft or just chucked out when the boys are getting rid of dads bits and bobs after he has passed on😘

When I went there and walked into the first hall, there is a German Tiger tank pointing its gun at you. Amazing to understand how the guys faced tanks like that and the 88mm Krupp anti tank gun. Must have had balls of steel. The Germans could hit and kill and tank before they were even in range

Only the Germans would think of taking a 88 flak gun and stick it on a tank hull
The Maybach engine is a work of art too Germany engineering at its very best but almost impossible to fix in the field especially when on the retreat
Interesting only about 1200 tiger 1 were ever built and T131 is the only one in the world the is in its very original condition (and not built from bits of different Tiger 1 tanks) as it was captured in Tunisia in 1940 after a British shell jammed in turret ring and the crew bailed without distroying it as per normal procedures
It then was taken back to Britain to be studied so we knew how to build a better tank to take on this type of tank
If they had the capacity to turn them out in the same numbers as the Russian T34 things would have turned out very different at the time

Interesting point Alan makes about production quantities. It is argued that that, plus the ‘back to base’ repair strategy was the biggest flaw in the armoured and air divisions, plus a level of attention to detail during manufacturing design that put functional optimisation over speed and quantity of manufacturer. In contrast the allies had advanced repair capabilities at the front line or at the airfields and the output data for planes and tanks makes for profound understanding of how the war swung in their favour particularly once the USA joined. Can look at the stats here.. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_production_during_World_War_IIAs for my own little stash of ‘stuff’ …personal belongings aside, bikewise the most uncommon NOS parts I have are probably the Round-tank Aircooled RD350 airbox lids and a NOS 4L0 barrel. Just the one side! Probably no chance to find a complementary partner and as with most of these things, probably of more interest /value as is that ever would be once put on a bike. Unlike a couple of bikes I have with particularly interesting backgrounds , the parts would never be for sale as the market value is very small compared to the novelty value, so commercially not life enhancing in any real way….yet basically irreplaceable..

My mate in work has nearly every Scalextric car (Plus the spanish versions) and track piece, he built a huge track that drops down from the roof of his garage via an electic whinch system. Theres literally thousands of cars. I didn't realise til a few weeks ago the sheer value of some of them. There's a really early Auto Union c71 car on ebay for £12,000!

Regarding the Autounion Used to work at a place called Crosswaite And Gardiner for a couple of years 2005 to 2007 and was one of the engineers amongst other things was involved in building a one off a Autounion V16 replica for Bernie Ecclestone for a cool £840,000 but I think total hours to build was around 18,000😳 Here is a video of Snags and Ian Mac doing its first start up after being fully build ( I was standing next to the original D type you can also see in the video) Engine had been on dyno already Almost as nice as a merlin engine but an extra 4 cylinders😁 and we’re the most powerful GP cars till the turbo era During start ups like this which happened a few times a year as the company looked after the 2 originals too on behalf of the owners) the whole shop stopped work and went outside to spectate but the primary school just across the road used to complain a bit😂😂 But that’s was cheap as at one point the only original one in private ownership (chassis 21 that won the 1939 GP) was up for auction at a even more cool 8.4m and at the time was the world most expensive sports car
