Hi Chaps, I picked up this F2 in a pretty poor condition cosmetically, earlier in the year.

The motor has already been totally rebuilt, with new crank, pistons etc. I have a shed load of receipts. The plan is to strip it right down, get the frame blasted and a couple of things repaired. Side stand lug is mullered and the odd bent bracket as usual.

It's got some nice looking and really lightweight Polini pipes on it. High spec Paoili rear shocker. Swingarm is really light compared to an F1.

I just drilled out the remains of the old side stand spring lug, then made another out of 10mm rod. Welded it in, but forgot to take pics. Saves any laughs about my (lack of) welding skills.

Thatβs not an F2 itβs an R.
4CE prefix instead of 1WT in the U.K.

Jon is correct, top frame rail tabs give it away as an R
If you are building it naked you may want to remove those tabs as a minimum
It won't have mounts for the frame infill panels at the headstock

Something strange
Bike is an E reg and doesn't have the tabs in the other pic
Are you using a different frame
Looked good as an F2 by the way π

Another giveaway is the grease nipples on the suspension linkage. Do the clocks go to 150MPH? Jon

I like that. Don't worry about your welding skills. As they improve you will find your skills with the grinder have mysteriously improved also John

The speedo has been switched for a MPH one by the previous owner. The actual frame has been painted now, will post pics of it later.

So the frame was degreased and prepped after blasting. Then Epoxy 2k primer was sprayed. It's great stuff and super tough / corrosion resistant. Its really taken over classic car body prep over here. Finally three coats of Black gloss enamel. A decent finish, but I think next time we'll use 2k single stage black.

The wheels were a lot of work and I always hate doing 'em. The black ones it came with, were in a poor state and most of the disk bolts had already been rounded off. So I used a set of R wheels. Rubbed down, etch primer than 2k single stage Ford Radiant Red. I'm really happy with them.

I had a moment to put the motor back into the frame, so in it went after painting. It was a shame that the previous owner didn't paint the engine parts, when it was rebulit. So the top half of the cases and top end got a coat of black enamel. The head bolts weren't pretty, so I left them unmasked. I was tempted to strip the motor down, however the work was done by a reputable shop and run in / checked on their dyno afterwards. I'm probably going to get a load of the fasteners zinc plated in a few months. I have a couple of other resto's to do, so will batch up all of the fasteners for plating at the same time. It'll mean a bit more work, but will be a lot cheaper that way.

So not strictly for this project, but I hurt my ankle last year kick starting my H2 750 with high comp pistons, in trainers. Stoopid mistake. It's ok now, but I built one of these just in case. It works brilliantly. Mocked up in ply: Then in 6mm ally plate. Hilux starter motor, YTX12BS bike battery and a boat roller / drive kit from ebay.

Thanks Matt. That looks very neat.
I remember you saying that your one was a bit scary on full pelt. Well my father jumped the first time I fired up my one!
Does the job perfectly though.

Ive seen lots of weird and wacky home made rollers at the local races. I think most budget racers decided they were handy enough to make their own as the first ones launched were very expensive. Many appear to have a 9" angle grinder as the drive.

A small update, afraid I won't have much time to work on this until the new year, sadly. So I'm converting the instruments from the F2 to a Japanese naked set that I got from a chap on here. Stripping down the Jap naked set. The front was rusty, as was the headlight bracket. They all got de-rusted then zinc primer and satin or matt paint. Not sure how the later plugs will match the F2 loom, will have to see. Matt Black paint

Dug out a naked headlight bracket, zinc primer and enamel black. Not happy with the finish, so I'll put some more topcoat on.

Finally got some time this week to get back to this one. Lower fork clamp painted. As with all the bearings on this bike, they have all been replaced and are in great nick, so left on. Swingarm had new bearings already, but was manky, so rubbed down, primer, then silver and finally 2 pack gloss, hopefully tomorrow. Headstock back in the bike. Things seem to be taking a while. Seems I left it just long enough to forget how most things go back together. Not to worry.

Swingarm now with 2k lacquer. Now the fun of converting a late F2 dash to fit a naked Jap RZ layout, mixed in with some modifications from the previous owner. The old foam rings did the usual self destruction trick and I forgot to order new ones. Going to get some pipe insulation and cut that to size. to:
