Great. Any idea what size barbed spigots you used? Think I'll have a go at this with my pwks. Think they were 14mm, will need to check👍🏼

I balanced them using the two tickover screws and then using the windows to sync the slides.

How did you get on with balancing the carbs? Thanks Guys, pleased how she turned out. I balanced the carbs using the tried and tested method in the end, lolly sticks, viewing windows and a careful ear. They seem good now so looking forward to getting it out for a run.

looking great, the fomt end really looks the part. did it slot in ok? Yes it quite simple, I had to make a 12mm collar under the bottom yoke bearing, bearings were available to fit the headstock and the bandit 400 stem so easy fit, I had to grind the bump stops off the bandit yoke and make my own. The original lock barrel fitted once the stubs were cut down under the bandit top yoke, the steering lock is about 1/2 a hole out so have lost the use unless I strip it down again and elongate the hole in the frame, rather not touch the frame though as it is all completely reversible back to standard. Not much left to do now and will get some decent pictures of it outside. 👍

Cheers guys, A while back I bought a solo seat from race replica’s website to fit when I had time, it was a bit naff and ill fitting so decided to cut it about and fit to a spare seat I purchased, modifying the foam and the base to make the solo seat fit flush and tidy, I moulded in brackets underneath to attach to the plastic base and have now got a decent fit, it will be fixed in place and not removable, I will just swap out seats if I need the standard fitted. Next is modify the foam so it fits around the pod and the brackets and make a seat cover, spray and put a red strip on. Here is the fit so far…. what do you think....nice period mod or rubbish ADA8BA41-65DF-4D17-9153-FCABC096717E by chris tring, on Flickr FE233A1E-F242-4211-8A20-9E85E979AB2D by chris tring, on Flickr

I do like a single seat unit and am going to do one on my JDM style F2 build project when i get to it. The fave of my plans is to use a VF750 single seat unit which i bought years back, gave to a mate and he gave me it back the other week as I'll likely use it before he even gets to his F2 projects even at my slow pace of work lol Ive looked at loads of these over the years when theyve come out and nothing seemed to fit as I would have wanted, ie as well as say the 500 or the earlier ypvs models. The best I found was the Retro tail from japan, but it is expensive (and so is the post as its huge of course) and its FRP which is not my fave material, i much prefer plastic as I can work with it. I have the Retro single seat tail for the earlier bikes and ive not used it, tho its a beautifully shaped thing hanging on my wall... hmm.... Your one looks like a good shape now on the bike, the back area might be better if it flowed more into the tail panels, but otherwise it sits pretty good on there I reckon. I assume you chopped the sides of this down so its sat 'on' the seat rail edge rather than outside the seat and over the lip? I seem to recall these being a bit of a 'plonked on' look normally, so yours looks loads better already. I assume your plan is to cut the OEM seat foam in a bit and cover it then integrate this unit onto the seat and treat it as a single piece so that you lift it all off with the seat catches? I am hoping with mine that i can use it like a 'boot' and store things in it, so I'll need to have to engineer a way to remove it, but I may just do what ive described above as at least our seats come off easily... we'll see. I do have a chinese copy of the 500 single seat cowl that i bought cheaply on aliexpress as another option for mine... so im interested to see how yours comes out as that might be another one to store away in my brain for later, so please do let us know how you go. So yes, nice mod i think... not 'rubbish'

So yes, nice mod i think... not 'rubbish' Hi Jon, thanks for the comments and your correct, I have cut the seat foam so it fits underneath, the seat cover will be fitted in the traditional way. I was thinking of building up the rear to make it fit into the rear a bit better, not sure how to do that apart from a lot of filler, suppose I could make a fibreglass lip and fil, or a wire extension and fibreglass/fill? I looked at loads too, the early vfr750 and the fz750 have a unit that may work but they are money nowadays. This is nearly done and looks nice, simple swap out for the standard seat so not effecting originality.

Yes building up the back is in an interesting one to solve. I reckon from what you said, your idea to make up a GRP lip and then cut n shut that in would work or perhaps have something 3D printed and glue that on as it would have minimal extra weight. Simple plastic filler around it and it should stay put etc.

Thanks for the comments, I have been thinking about the height and changing it, I have other dog bones that are 5mm shorter each time so going down 1 size tomorrow. Feels really solid on the road, a more modern feel and yes a bit more sure footed, scrubbing the tyres still as only went round the block so far. Mot next then I can get it out properly.
