Hi
Helping a mate out with his immaculate 4L0 fitted with Allspeeds. Completely standard except Allspeeds and 230 main jets. (4L0-01 carbs). Been through it meticulously and everything clear and clean and set up right with no leaks. But have a problem with it very slightly bogging down just off idle (weak). Being weak it gets better as it warms up. Once pulled away, it performs perfectly. Were playing with the mixture screws and he said going half turn richer may have improved it slightly but... it aint going to solve it! Though maybe does indicate the need for bigger pilots
So my only question is - has anyone had Allspeeds cause similar problem? We plan to go up one size on the pilot jets but it would be good to know that Allspeeds have been known to cause this because I cant find anything else wrong or justify standard 22.5 pilots being wrong
Cheers all!

Stop riding round at low rpm, it's an 80s two stroke with expansion chambers

Mines running large can allspeeds and 31K carbs, I’ve gone up to 25 on pilot but that was to iron out a bit of spluttering just over the 5K mark, bike was ok on 22.5’s pulling away from idle and is no different with the 25’s fitted,,

Mines standard apart from Allspeeds. 31k carbs with 220 mains and 27.5 pilots. Had a similar problem bogging down with standard pilot jets.

You shouldn't have to change anything with Allspeeds. They are stunning but all show and zero performance gain, even though it sounds like you're going faster!

turn the air screw all the way in on both carbs, then just crack them off a 1/4 turn each, then try it, if it runs perfectly like that, then leave it alone, if its still bogging, then a 25 pilot should fix it, does he have the snorkel fitted, which air filter does he have, has the engine been tweaked, which spark plu is he running and what caps ?

Thanks Dave, I left him today and said turn the air screws in another half turn and try it. He didnt do it so he'll try them tomorrow as you say a 1/4 turn out Engines all standard, standard airbox/filter, no tweaks and std non resistor plugs. Caps also look std but dont know if they are resistor/non resistor. Timings spot on. Wasnt sure whether to try to 25 or 27.5 pilot but we'll go 25 if needed Will feedback on progress, cheers

Alex Cheers Alex, yeah I know what you mean about sounding fast! Ive seen Higgspeeds and now these 'no changes required' pipes mess up low range carburation though

Remember that not all bikes are exactly the same, so what might work perfectly well on one, may need tweaks on another. I've had quite a few pairs of Allspeeds on different bikes over the years - some were fine with no mods, 1 set needed 25 pilots, and another was only happy on 27.5's, so they do vary. I dont think any pipe is truly "fit and forget". And yea, I agree, performance gains were minimal - 2 -3 bhp most said, but you didn't buy Allspeeds for the "go", more the "show", as they do look awesome on Lc's and Rd's
