My Bimota YB3 which has a (1980) TZ 250 G motor, and has a thermostat fitted as std. you can see here in the TZ 250/350 manual The diagram shows the TZ "A" cylinder head as seen by the shape of the casting, but they were fitted from A to H models 1974 - 1981/82 the bypass hose is then fitted to a brass spigott under the thermostat and connects to the lower left side of the radiator. Some people removed the thermaostat and bolcked off the connectors to radiator and spiggot. As mentioned previously the thermostat is to aid warm up and control the the temperature of the engine. Cooling is much more than just fitting a larger capacity radiator. "Some" of these after market radiators are not very efficient, and then they become basically just a larger volume of warm coolant which is then just adding weight to the bike. As mentioned earlier, fitting different front end can effect air flow/cooling. Also fitting a cooling fan can help when in heavy traffic, however these can also act as a slight restrictor to the air when exiting the rear of radiator when the bike is at speed. Air flow, surface area, coolant flow & materix design, are all important with cooling. Jan Theil & Fritz Overmars tested 125 race bike on a dyno, ( I think it was Lorenzo's Derbi but cant quite remember) from 80 degrees in 5 degree stages down to 40 degrees, and then found the best BHP @42 degress, later they tested an engine connected by a hose to tap water, result was the best power they ever got from an engine on test-bed, and it didnt seize due to the coolant being a constant temperature about 28 degrees from what I read. NSU had their own ideas NSU warm up procedure...... Germany Hot Air Best regards Johnny C.
