Pushing the boat out and spending my kids inheritance (a little bit) in advance.
(First of all I'm a Brit who lives in South Australia, so seems unlikely many of you guys have any contacts/recommendations down here!)
Have given a set of LC bodywork to a local good quality car repair place to price up a rub down and spray up. Have a Mars Bar set of decals with it. Have used this crash repair place several times for our accident-magnet cars and they are run by a very pleasant bloke apparently with OCD - in a good way. With the previous experiences and conversations I believe the relationship I have built up with him should set things up well.
Has anyone gone to the trouble of working out measurements or a template for the exact correct placement of the LC decals?
For example I see resto's with the stripes around the knee dents placed strangely and it jarrs my eye, but I haven't seen an unrestored LC since they came out, and I have little frame of reference. They almost certainly came out uniformly from the factory, so my only "sure" references are the original Yamaha marketing photo's but these don't get all that close in.
Getting the other question out of the way, IF he comes back with a workable price I'm getting him to lacquer over all decals for longevity, the bike is to be nice (and durable) over and above being exactly period correct.
Thanks in advance

Are there any photos on Xaviers excellent rd350lc.net website that’d help you?

Are there any photos on Marcel’s excellent rd350lc.net website that’d help you? That would be Xavier's excellent website. OEB

There are no "exact" positions for the decals, they were all hand applied so all vary slightly.

Funnily enough I am in the process of fitting side panel decals. I looked on Google and people are fitting them in lots of different ways, so I googled 350LC and looked at the original Yamaha Pro mo pics in "images".Very helpful. The stripe in the tank isn't easy. It's take patience, heat gun and luck. There are some helpful YouTube clips in tank decal fitting
Good luck.

Apologies for the incorrect credit - I’ve edited my post to correct the error.

As I mentioned elsewhere where this was asked, the OEM Yam pics on Xaviers site are high res and really useful for this.
As OEB says, they were done by hand at the factory and do vary. Get it close to the pics as you can and chances are youre doing what the original worker did.

There are no "exact" positions for the decals, they were all hand applied so all vary slightly. OEB as above you have to remember that they are put on by different men standing at a station's on different months on different shifts on the same day so there are some differences from panel to panel . Ive seen some that look way of but if thats how they were sold new then they are correct for that bike. So best you can say if this is roughly how they should look .

Brilliant, thanks everyone,
I’ve put a bunch of photos together from Xavier’s site and elsewhere and I’ve PM’d Mark for the measurements he’s taken.
The guy I’ve asked for a quote is a car repairer, so has no frame of reference but runs a state of the art paintshop, so putting a guide together for him is essential.
Having worked a lot in the construction and related industries I’ve long been a devotee of the mantra measure twice, (or ten times) cut once, and give someone exact and clear measurements/instructions. It’s only getting done once,
Thanks All and TTFN

Hope it goes better than my kenny roberts set , took a year and a half and 3 x sets of tank decals , with the brand new painted tank needing a repair after a disaster at the vinyl sign writers , lol. Good luck ! Puddy

Puddy, sounds like a nightmare. Still waiting for price/result from painter, clearly not on the priority list.

Image works will fit the for next to nothing if you buy the decals off them. Most of the top painters use them, obviously that's if your in the UK.
