While tidying up the garage in the vain attempt to create more space , I found this in the tank I took off a couple of years ago , and remember the seller saying there was something he had put in the tank when I bought the bike Clueless as usual 😊 Mart

Yup fuel cat pellets. These appeared mainstream in the late 1990s as some sort of solution to the withdrawal of leaded petrol. Just pop them in your tank and they will add lead (or replace the properties of it) to the fuel inside - allegedly 🤔 Not exactly sure of the science behind them or if they even work. I saw them as similar to snake oil.

Haha, I remember these. Touted as the thing for old cars that needed lead in their fuel. Total snake oil of course.
Funny thing is that you can run any leaded fuel only 4T engine on fuel without lead. It takes ages for the valves seats to be eaten away and especially on classic vehicles that are driven only a few thousand miles a year. Im sure some of those guys who dropped these into their tanks felt it was working as year on year they had no issues... but had only done <5000 miles in 10 years.
Some valve seats had hardened over the years and didnt even need work, but it always amused me that people took engine/heads into to have the valve seats cut out and replaced when they should have just run the engine to see what happened first, some would have been fine... unleaded had been around for years.
They were weird times, no one trusted unleaded fuel. Kind of like Ethanol now, tho it has already proved more troublesome than unleaded ever proved to be.
Leaded did smell better when you filled up, probably shouldnt admit i liked the smell of it... lol
No idea why anyone thought an LC would need lead in its fuel... a YPVS might fool someone non technical, but the LC doesnt even have those valves lol

Hi,
They were called Carbonflo at one time supposed to allow the use of unleaded in engines that require leaded fuel. I tried one in an Fiat Panda once but the valves still recessed into the head. Can't see the point in a Two Stroke.
