I thought I'd posted this before but must have dreamt it... My 31K is a pig to start from cold, seems to have got worse too. It's still not been on the road but I've been doing a few heat cycles earlier in the summer. It seems now that it takes 20 plus kicks to get going, but starts first kick once warm and runs sweet as once going. I'm thinking I should take the carbs off again but not sure what else to check. Carbs were fully cleaned including removing the little brass balls.
Thanks, Phil

I had one years ago like that and it was the float bowls on the wrong carbs Also check you haven’t mixed the slides up and put them in back to front on the wrong carbs

A few things worth checking.
Are the chokes working. Are you getting a spark straight away. Are you priming the carbs before kicking the bike over, if it has stood a while fuel will evaporate from the float bowls. Or is it possibly just oiled up through not riding the bike and burning the oil off.

Either float bowls on wrong carb or bowls are empty
If left for any length of time you will need to put the tap on prime for 10 seconds or so before trying to start

Thanks all, I guess it’s a carbs off just to double check the float bowls are correct!

Mark the position of you air jets, then screw them all the way in and back them out 1/8 of a turn. Then try to start from cold if it starts easier you need to do some adjustment in this area.

Thanks, I’ll try that, the motor was “worked on” by Muttsnutts so it still only on his recommended jets a settings, but I though running off the idle jets would affect it too much. I’ll try that and see. Phil

Plugs could be fouled if she’s not had a blast out ??

Plugs could be fouled if she’s not had a blast out ?? That’s not a stupid thought, I’ll stick a new set in too, it’s definitely got worse! It started 3rd kick when it first went together.

low compression? 2 strokes that have worn bores/rings tend to be hard to start when cold.

Sounds oiled up to me, as we all know 2 strokes need a clear out especially if it’s only been on tick over and blipped, lots of unburnt oil collects in the bottom of the crankcase which will hinder cold starting. Take it for a blast or at a minimum new plugs as already mentioned.

Does the spark look healthy?
Check it doesn't have both resistor plugs and caps. Some old Yam coils are also weak, I resolved the hard starting on one by replacing with the generic orange pit bike / Banshee coils.
