New seat cover has been fitted at a guess and is too tight, you should be able to release it then recover less tightly.

Another check is that the plastic seat base is not pressed against the inner mudguard.
I've only had this the once the inner mudguard had been modified and the back of the seat base was pressed against it.

I feel your pain.
I brought a standard recovered seat as my bike came with an aftermarket one.
The fit was bad with large gaps on the side and back.
I took it apart and tried heating it and cable tying it to the bike to fit.
This didn't work.
I contacted the guy I got it from and he said it fitted his bike fine.
In the end I sold the seat. and lost money on it and it was now in bits.
Then a very kind member on here said he had some seats and I could buy one.
We tried 6 different seats and they all fitted slightly differently.
Finally an original one (and the most expensive of course) fitted perfectly.
The moral of the story is seats are a pain and they all seem to be a little bit different.
If you want it perfect it will cost you and will be frustrating along the way.
I think if you managed to find a NOS one it would still be a gamble as to wether it would fit your actual bike or not.

I used a heat gun on back of seat but not too much incase it melted then turned it over and pressed down hard on back of seat while it cooled now no more gap

If you can sit on it and ride the bike ok I wouldn’t worry to much about it, they are all different as previously said ..

Sometimes you can loosen the subrame and lift it up to reduce the seat gap.

If the seat can be pressed down to close up the gap, then you may be able to alter the catches to pull it further down.

You can get the hooks on the bottom of the seat welded up a bit so the step is a bit higher. To work out how much you need to go, you can space the catches on the frame down by putting washers between the frame catches and the frame.

As mentioned above I loosened the subframe and lifted it up also rather than fit washers under the seat catches I made a metal plate to fit between the frame and the catch so its not as obvious and just painted it black to hide it

I had the same issue, I stacked up washers to lower the seat catches, once I had worked out how much lower I needed to be, I made a spacer plate, looks so much better now.
