My restorer got her ready for her post rebuild first start......choke out and started first kick......makes all the right noises.......no leaks, weeps or defects apparent.....just a testament to his workmanship and skill. He says the real test will be on the road with the butt dyno (LOL) but the way she is revving out and settling back to idle the tune is pretty close, plus she is running a little lean because the air box is off. A Major milestone but lots of little loose ends to tidy up before final paint.

Switchgear were in a pretty bad state so they were refurbed as well Primered fairings going on for final fit and alignment.......

Looks great !! - Keep the paint layers thin near the fairing joins - my RD500 was a bit of a struggle fitting the fairing due to the paint layers being too thick.

Thanks Paul, I'll pass it on to him. He's an outstanding painter and I,m pretty sure he'll have all this covered. The paint job he did on the 86 GSXR 750 I bought from him is hands down the best I,ve ever seen, and I,ve restored a few in my time. The pics he sent me of the RZ fairing repairs and the attention to detail to measurements where the placement of the original decals just amazed me. I,m sure the paint job on this bike will be the "cherry on top of the cake" of this restoration.

It’s a fantastic moment when the paintwork comes back for the bikes final assembly - just slightly spoilt on mine having to sand the paintwork back on the fairing joints - I didn’t want you to suffer the same mental trauma 😊
Looking forward to seeing your bikes progress.
Cheers Paul

Hi Alex, The GSXR 750 was a dream bike of mine at the time but couldn't afford it then. I used to watch the Skoal Bandits back in the day and always wanted one. My restorer got all the press releases and pics from the original 50 GSXR Skoals done back in the day by Dream Machine and got it as accurate as possible. The pics do not do it justice at all. The paint looks a mile deep. The bike is restored to the same standard as the RZ. It runs and feels like a brand new bike, which it essentially is....

Well after searching weeks for a rear fender (apparently everyone used to cut them off in the day), I splashed out hundreds of dollars on what was a really rough one!! Luckily my guy knows how to make it look brand new again!!

Who the f**k would message you and tell you that you are posting too many pics ?? Unbelievable !! That's part of what makes this forum so great - the fact you have taken the time and effort to document your build in such great detail, both for our enjoyment and for reference for anyone wishing to follow suit. The vast majority of guys will thank you for such an in depth thread - we can all benefit from threads like this. You are doing an awesome job of a comprehensive build on an iconic Yamaha stroker - just what we need - so keep loading as many pics as you can and please the majority, not the one knob 'ed who is obviously consumed with envy and jealousy !! Brilliant build Dusty I'm so with Dusty on this. Just ignore any negative comments and PM's Trent- you restoration is fantastic, post as many pictures as you can. Really enjoying all the detail in this thread, super work so far.
When I built the three cylinder LC, I had messages telling me it was not how Yamaha intended the bike to be, and it will never work! I've had the same thing with the 4 cylinder LC as well as telling me I'm repeating the 3 cylinder bike with just an extra cylinder!!
Very tidy work , well done

very tidy work right their , you should be very proud of what you have done AND saved to get right back on the road ZiG Its the saving of the bike that would otherwise have been scrapped or parted out that always runs deep within me. I just think that those of us who can do that work owe it to the rest of us to do as many as we can. Makes me sound like a greenie or something, but there arent always enough bikes to go round and some of our guys have some fantastic skills

Panels more final fit prior to paint. Skipping time here is not an option if you want a quality panel fit.Keeping an eye out on panel gap as rd84 Paul mentioned earlier. We don't want to go back and rework edges after painting.

That early year GSXR1100 is pretty close to being finished and is coming out beautifully in completely standard 100% factory look and red, white and blue 1st Gen paint. He's slowed down on that one as he has been spending time on my RZ..
