Hi all A bit off topic but wondered if anybody has left any vapour blasted case “bare” and unpainted? I got some “diesel” cases cleaned and originally painted silver but wondered if anybody has left cases “bare”. And if you did was the surface sealed or do you just kept them nice and clean and wiped down with something? Any advice welcome Best wishes Al

I left the cases on my H1E bare after vapour blasting.
Tbh, the first sight of water and they mark up. You can use ACF50 or similar which helps.
Didn't bother me, but for sure not exactly practical.

Thanks for that Ok that’s maybe why the manufacture painted the cases in the first place so maybe I will do the same Will do a dry build first so I know all is good as I need to sort out all the correct shell bearings etc and then once I am ready I will then paint the cases the original silver and then do a final build Thanks again Al

I had some of my LC cases glass bead blasted many years ago and they are still in good condition, they get a bit oily, but clean up easily.

What was the finish when it left the factory? I would go with stock personally.

Thats what I was gonna suggest - either clear or silver Cerakote. Heat and fluids resistant and a thin as opposed to thick coating. A really tough finish too.

Some additional information - I think the vapour blasting leaves the casings a little shiny, which is nice on a special/hybrid, but looked a little too shiny for a standard OEM finish. The glass bead finish was a little more matt and looked more factory to my eye, and I was told it seal the pores of the aluminium better, so this may be why it has held up for over 10 years with no visible corrosion. The only extra I have done was to wipe them over with WD40 after they were done, but not re-applied any WD40 again since.
