Hi, I have a spare set of 4L0.00 carbs that ive been cleaning up and noticed that there is a hole, see pic. Im thinking that a brass ball should be in there or is that how it left the factory? giving off light crossword

Managed to find the answer. Early carbs didn't have the balls fitted, apparently something to do with the misfire.

What was puzzling me is that ive seen recent posts that had the brass balls in. When I look into the chamber of my carb, there is a very small corrector jet but no other openings , so if I blocked the hole with a grub screw there would be no air flow at all. Thanks for the reply.

Thanks for the reply. Chris, if you read the Yamaha document in the link I sent you will see that the modification includes drilling an extra hole to connect the air circuit to the outside of carb for the air flow. They suggest sealing the original hole with aralydite, but that would only be the opening, not the full passage and the new drilled hole. Some people may have popped a brass ball into the original hole instead of the aralydite and that may be what you have seen, otherwise it could have been a 4L0-01 carb you was looking at which had the brass ball fitted in the factory.

Hi Shaun, spotted that. Takes some accurate drilling to line up and I don't have the equipments. I may have to send them out to Mutts although I know he's mega busy. Take care.
