Picked up this one for free, Neighbor was going to dump it and asked if I wanted it, I took it in, Stripped the carbs, bottle fed some juice and jumped it and it fired up and ran perfect, So it was worth saving, Removed the old lodger, he looked a little frazzled TBH.. Stripped it down to the last nut bolt as everything was either seized or rusted or corroded..... Powdercoated all the metals, not worth the time trying to restore it, All new nuts/bolts, Mix of stainless and Titanium, New for leg stanchions as the old ones were rusted, New seals, oil and springs, head race bearings, Rear end got a BMW 1000RR shock, fits straight in and works perfectly, I replaced all the bearings on the bike, Wheels, swingarm, suspension linkages etc etc etc.... Fitted some bars and cut and lengthened all the wiring so I could get it all under the seat, Fitted some RS38 flatslides with some bellmouths, Dyna coils. new oil, plugs filter etc. All new paint by my painter, loving the new paint, new seat cover and seat pad to match. The usual after that, stripped and rebuilt all the calipers, new pads, new Galfer brake and clutch lines, As we all now on this forum, No such thing as a free bike

That has turned out lovely. Another nice bike back on the road which was unbelievably destined for the bin. Just shows though that things do rust up on the West Coast Well done Tacky.

Ooh I like that. It just looks right. Maybe because you have put similar stripes to the original on the tank/seat? Makes it look like something that Suzuki could sell. Looks like a Cobra pipe? Have you re-used the whole exhaust? If so you've done a cracking job. As you say no such thing as a free bike. You must have put hundreds of hours into that never mind the money.

That salty air gets to everything John, The old owner left it sitting out the front of his house for 12 years, Im really surprised it actually started up!!!

You've done a wonderful job there, on the brink of the skip, with a bit of time look what you can achieve. Andy.

Wot a transformation, did you spend much to get it like it is ? Paint, 800 Powdercoating 950 Carbs 670 Bell mouths and filter 250
Tyres, chain sprockets pads brake lines roughly 800 both seats and pad recovered 200 Brembo master brake and clutch cylinders 700 Bearings, seals etc roughly 200 Every damn nut/bolt, Stainless/TI roughly 400 Million hours of swearing and trying to get it apart and back together.... 000000 and another 100000 hours sanding, cleaning, painting bits n pieces... 000000
Roughly 5k in it. Probably a bit more if I really dug into it.....

It's never a cheap process restoring old bikes, for me its all about the personal satisfaction gained from the finished result. Yours is a fantastic transformation anyone would be happy to own.

100% agree. I never ever add up the cost. Ever! Lol. The 2-strokes cost a lot more to do as everyone on this board knows. Especially the 4 cylinders.
